Bhooth Bangla trailer launch: Ekta Kapoor reveals Akshay Kumar’s touching gesture: "After Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara, he gave me a cheque and returned money…NOBODY has ever done this"

Akshay Kumar, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Mithila Palkar, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Rajesh Sharma, director Priyadarshan and producer Ekta Kapoor attended the trailer launch of their film Bhooth Bangla. The film reunites Akshay and Ekta Kapoor after 13 years. They last worked together on Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara (2013). Ekta spoke about a lesser-known fact about that film.

Ekta Kapoor began by saying, “It was my dream to work with Akshay sir for a very long time. There’s something that people don’t know. He’s the only actor who has done that. He called me up after our first film didn’t do well. I don’t know why he called to meet me. Nevertheless, I met him the next morning. He gave me a cheque and said, ‘You have lost money on our film. Take your money’.”

 

As the audience clapped for Akshay’s gesture, Ekta Kapoor continued, “I was in shock. Koi nahin karta. In my 31 years of being in the film industry, nobody has ever done this. Imagine, he just casually handed me a cheque. I told him, ‘Sir, ek film kar lo mere liye. I’ll earn a lot through that film’. Tabu brought the house down at this point as she wondered why Ekta didn’t share the profits of their hit film, Crew (2014). She asked, “Crew ka jo overflow aapke paas aaya woh mere paas kab aayega?”

 

At the start of the event, Tabu revealed that Ekta Kapoor rarely comes to promotional events of her films. Ekta explained, “I usually come for trailer launches when the film is small. When a film has big stars, toh meri zaroorat nahin padti! When all you guys are there, who’ll look at me (laughs)?” To which Akshay quipped, “Stars toh aate hai lekin chand aakhir mein aata hai! Aur last mein kaun aaya?”

 

Bhooth Bangla releases in cinemas on April 17 and will have paid previews from 9:00 pm on April 16.
