Aamir Khan has decided to bring his Secret Superstar on Diwali day i.e. Thursday. Since this is considered to be one of the lowest potential days for a film to bring in audience, the only explanation that one has is that this could be the way to help fetch good word of mouth a day before the real week begins on Friday. In fact Thursday could well be considered akin to that that of 'Paid Previews' day since evening and night shows could well be curtailed at most properties owing to Diwali.
Nonetheless, given the fact that Golmaal Again is seeing a massive release on Friday, it is reasonable enough for Secret Superstar to aim for a head-start so that by the time Saturday arrives, both films are on an even ground. As such, both the films are aiming for family audience which means the clash would have an impact for sure. Had this been a solo arrival for Secret Superstar, the situation would have been a different. However, on a counter note, the kind of buzz and hype it has managed to generate due to Diwali release would go in its favor as well which means all said and done, it is finding a positive standing.
It would be unfair to expect a major start for Secret Superstar on Thursday due to reasons as stated above, which means anything in Rs. 4-5 crore range would be a reasonable start. However, Friday would be looked at quite keenly and anything in Rs. 8-10 crore range would give Secret Superstar a good enough footing. Post that it would be word of mouth that should take over and if that turns out to be positive, the film could well be in for a wrong run since rather than relying on an initial, this one has the potential to be a 'lambi race ka ghoda'.
