Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have been long known for their fake-feud and this time again; Jackman has a silly request against his longtime pal. This time, Jackman jokingly made a plea to the Academy to not nominate Reynolds’ ‘Good Afternoon’ in the best song category. ‘Good Afternoon’ is from the musical comedy and modern retelling of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, titled Spirited, starring Reynolds and Will Ferrell.
The song recently made it to the shortlist in the original song category at the forthcoming 95th Academy Awards. Taking to social media on Wednesday, Jackman shared a video explaining how the song nomination "would make the next year of my life insufferable."
“Hey everybody it’s 2023, and I really, really wanted to send out a positive message at the beginning of the year, but recent events have made that impossible,” Jackman began in the video. The Greatest Showman star then went on to explain that while he and his family “loved” Spirited, he’s still not onboard for the song to receive an Oscar nomination.
"However, I've just heard the Academy have shortlisted 'Good Afternoon' in the Best Song category," the actor continued. "Now, Ryan Reynolds getting a nomination in the Best Song category would make the next year of my life insufferable. It would. I mean, I have to spend a year with him shooting Wolverine and Deadpool."
He continued, “Trust me, it would be impossible. It’d be a problem. So, just to recap, love Spirited, love Will, love Octavia, love the song ‘Good Afternoon’, love Benj and Justin. But please, please, from the bottom of my heart, do not validate Ryan Reynolds in this way. Please.”
Reynolds was quick to respond to his frenemy. "Disagree. I think the deepfakes that sung and danced for Will and I would love to perform at the Oscars," he wrote. Jackman is set to reprise his role as Wolverine alongside Reynolds in the upcoming Deadpool 3. The Logan actor was previously revealed that Wolverine and Deadpool do not see eye to eye and actually hate each other.
"[Logan is] frustrated by him [and] wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head," he said at the time. "Unfortunately, he can't be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I'm probably going to punch him in the head a lot."
