The creative partnership between actor Taapsee Pannu and writer-producer Kanika Dhillon has continued across several genres in Hindi cinema. From Manmarziyaan to their upcoming revenge action-thriller Gandhari, the duo has collaborated on stories that explore different themes and formats.
Pannu and Dhillon first worked together on Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan (2018), in which Pannu played Rumi, an independent woman caught in a complicated relationship. They reunited for the streaming film Haseen Dillruba (2021), followed by the sports drama Rashmi Rocket (2021), which addressed gender-related regulations in athletics. Their collaboration continued with Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki (2023), followed by Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba (2024), expanding the story of their pulp thriller franchise. Their upcoming film Gandhari marks their sixth feature collaboration.
Talking about their latest project and their creative association, writer-producer Kanika Dhillon said, “With Gandhari, we are bringing an intense and emotionally charged mother-led action thriller to the screen. Taapsee and I are coming together for a fiery, raw action-thriller for the first time. Gandhari is a heroic story of a mother driven by revenge that I had a great time writing and producing. Taapsee is an exceptionally hard worker who has put her absolute heart and soul into every frame of this film. I can’t wait for the audience to witness Taapsee in this fierce, unseen avatar.”
With Gandhari, Pannu and Dhillon are exploring the revenge-action genre after previously working across romantic drama, mystery, sports drama, immigration and thriller narratives. Their latest collaboration continues their association with stories built around varied themes and strong female-led characters.
