Being associated with some of the biggest shows and banners including the Colors’ show Choti Sarrdaarni, Avinash Rekhi is all set to return to television in a completely new role. Playing the role of a ‘quintessential’ Ranjha in this epic love saga of Heer-Ranjha, which has nothing to do with the original tale, Avinash Rekhi will be seen as Ranjeet in the upcoming Zee TV show Ikk Kudi Punjab Di, a role where he is required to be sensitive yet strong, a motivator for Heer as he gives her a lending hand to let her wage a war and fight her battles. In fact, in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Avinash talks about his journey of kicking off this new show.
When we asked Avinash Rekhi about the reason behind him deciding to play Ranjha, he revealed that it wasn’t the character but the story that attracted him the most. “Well more than the character and the role of Ranjha, it was the story that attracted me. When the first narration of the story happened to me, it was done by Ranjeev Verma, who was the early writer of my show (Chotii Sardarni). I got really hooked onto it and it was an amazing story. I went to the producers to tell them that I really love this story, and we should definitely work on it, and that’s how I became a part of this show,” Rekhi told Bollywood Hungama.
The Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji actor also asserted that it is quite different from other shows and is not the same-old romantic drama. “I think Ikk Kudi Punjabi Di features a special connection between two people who share an unbreakable bond of friendship. It’s quite different from the other shows because it's not the daily boy-meets-girl kind of romance. It's very different from others and when people will see the show, they will realize and will come to know how different it is and how connecting it is. And moreover, the writing of the show is so great that the characters will automatically resonate with the audience. In fact, it is one of the main reasons why I agreed upon doing the show,” he added.
Considering a career that spans almost a decade for Avinash, he has seen the rise, the fall, and everything in between, on television. Although he refrained from commenting on shows, he isn’t a part of, the actor did agree that this industry has a tendency to become a little regressive at times. “I don't want to comment on any other person's content, any other show of which I'm not a part. As far as my journey has been concerned, I've done any regressive show. So I've been fortunate. I think in this 10 years difference, I would just say that it's the technology might have changed in terms of the cameras and everything and the taking, but the thought process about other shows, I don't know I can't relate to them,” he maintained.
Elaborating on his own journey, Rekhi also recalled how he made his television debut with a unique show, which fell in the mystery-suspense genre. “If you talk about my journey, it has been great. The kinds of shows which I have done, the kind of stories which I've done have been great. And 10 years ago, also, if I see, my first show was Chhal – Sheh Aur Maat, it had an amazing story to it. And now also, I'm the kind of stories I'm getting are not regressive. They are very well written, they're very well managed, well organized, and very, about today's life. I think the thinking has changed of the writers and they are bringing up new stories,” he continued.
In the same interaction, he also spoke about his conscious decision of choosing roles and shows. After all, that essays a key role in the actor’s success. “I think content is always the king. If the content excites me, then obviously the characters inside would do justice to the content. Because at the end of the day, the characters don't make the show, it's the content. So, I'm really glad that I've got this kind of content and I'm very fortunate that all my journey, whichever show I've done, I've got the best stories.”
Avinash Rekhi will be seen alongside Tanisha Mehta in Ikk Kudi Punjab Di which kicks off on November 21 at 7 pm.
