Archana Puran Singh speaks out in support of Gen Z; says, “As a society we have become very judgemental”

en Bollywood News Archana Puran Singh speaks out in support of Gen Z; says, “As a society we have become very judgemental”

Archana Puran Singh believes that society has become increasingly critical of today's younger generation, often referred to as Gen Z, without acknowledging the role adults and the environment play in shaping their behaviour. Sharing her views in an exclusive conversation with IANS, the actress said children should not be blamed for adapting to the world they are born into, as their upbringing is influenced by the society around them.

Expressing concern over the way today's youth are judged, Archana said comparisons with previous generations are unfair because every generation grows up under different circumstances.

"I feel that as a society, we have become very judgemental. We are judging our kids now. If the kids of this time are like this, then there is a reason for it, right? The kids will be like the environment. If you change the environment, the kids will change. So, it's not their fault," she said.

The veteran actress further questioned why children are held responsible for behaviour that is largely shaped by parents, family and society. She explained that if she were to compare her future grandchildren with her own children, it would not be a fair comparison because every generation grows up in a different environment.

"If I have grandchildren tomorrow and they behave in a certain way, and if I compare that my kids didn't behave like this etc, it's not fair. The kids are not born learning anything, right? You teach them. Society teaches them. So, how are we blaming the kids?" she added.

Archana also reflected on the impact of technology, pointing out that children today are growing up in a digital era that earlier generations could never have imagined. According to her, modern gadgets and technology are a natural part of their lives, and adapting to them is inevitable. "This is the world. They are born in this world. It's not their fault that they get a camera at the age of one. So, you can't really say right or wrong."

She further emphasized that while children may misbehave at times, that is not unique to the present generation. "You have given them all these instruments. Misbehaving is a different thing. Kids misbehaved even earlier. We were born in a certain time, so we behaved according to that time. Now, they are born in this age. Nowadays, the gadgets they have, computers and everything that we couldn't even imagine in our dreams, that is the world they are born in. They have to adapt to it. That is their life," Archana said.

On the professional front, Archana Puran Singh has been a part of the entertainment industry for more than four decades. She was last seen in the series Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya, where her portrayal of Urmila Devi received an encouraging response from audiences. Created by Biswapati Sarkar and Sameer Saxena and directed by Himank Gaur, the series also features Kay Kay Menon, Naveen Kasturia, Abhimanyu Singh, Deven Bhojani, Prasanna Bisht, Ajitesh Gupta, Annapurna Soni and Prachee Shah.
