Every year, we come across films that make us cringe from start to finish or have particular sequences or dialogues that make us want to bury our heads in shame. Bollywood Hungama, in this special feature, collates a list of 24 such scenes and one-liners in Hindi films in 2023 that we felt were highly embarrassing.
Note – Films are arranged in the order of their release dates
1. Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh
The film was marketed in such a manner that we expected the debate between Mahatma Gandhi and Nathuram Godse to form a huge chunk of the film. Instead, it started very late in the second half. Those who believe in Godse’s ideology were in for a shock as he was shown to be tongue-tied in front of the Father of the Nation. Moreover, certain dialogues seem to be added just for the heck of it, keeping the current climate in mind.
2. Bheed
The finale of this thought-provoking film left the audience in shock. From the food mall scene to the end, the goings-on failed to make any sense. If Rajkummar Rao and Pakaj Kapur’s track was silly, Dia Mirza’s track, too, was flawed. The manner in which she easily took a shortcut, that too, with her huge vehicle, and no one getting a hint of it, was plain silly.
3. Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan
Such films should have had powerful and hilarious one-liners. Instead, we were given dialogues like “Insaaniyat mein hai bada dum, vande mataram.”
4. The Kerala Story
The manner in which the film depicted certain men calling the shots was laughable, especially their suggesting the youth should sleep and impregnate young women. The Kashmir Files at least looked believable in every way.
5. Zara Hatke Zara Bachke
The film was fine till a certain point. But the climax was very disappointing as it was difficult to digest and was far-fetched. One wonders how the writers thought of such a solution to the problems faced by the characters.
6. Adipurush
The dialogue ‘Jalegi bhi tere baap ki’ requires no explanation. It caused a historic uproar.
7. 1920: Horrors Of The Heart
The film had several cringe moments. But the one involving the gardener took the cake. He seemed to be the most powerful and was shockingly absent in the climax fight when his powers were needed the most! What a wrong day to pick as your off day.
8. Tiku Weds Sheru
The climax song and fight, where characters started firing for no reason, was an embarrassment in the name of the cinema.
9. Blind
The film was set in Glasgow and yet, didn’t have CCTV cameras to catch the culprit. On top of it, a character was injured and had a phone. Yet, he didn’t call for help and relaxed on a bench while the blind protagonist, his friend, single-handedly fought the dangerous villain.
10. Bawaal
This was a fine film until we heard the dialogue “Har rishta apne apne Auschwitz se guzarta hai”.
11. Dream Girl 2
The protagonist cheated most of the characters by pretending to be a woman. Yet, the same character blasted his lover and made her feel guilty in the climax. While she apologized for her mistake, he didn't felt sorry for what he did.
12. Haddi
The film left viewers wondering what was going on. On top of it, to see a saree-clad Nawazuddin Siddiqui conveniently beating baddies twice his size was cringe-worthy.
13. Sukhee
The toilet humour scene was bad. It’s also amusing to see such a clean, spotless toilet in a crowded bus stand.
14. The Vaccine War
This was a fine effort, especially the track of scientists developing a vaccine. The track of the journalist, however, was childish. The ‘toolkit’ shot and the one where she’s talking to a foreign man took away the impact of the other powerful scenes of the film.
15. Mission Raniganj
On paper, the climax must have sounded clapworthy. On celluloid, it reeked of cinematic liberty in an otherwise realistic film. The character was gasping for oxygen. The ones who came on the surface just before he had to take the support of oxygen support. Our man, however, came out and was hailed as a hero. The jubilation miraculously cured him of his breathing issues!
16. Thank You For Coming
Though it raised some important points, the film had its share of minuses. No one knows what the women in the film did for a living. On top of it, the climax speech was miles away from reality. It didn’t have the desired impact.
17. Ganapath
The climax of Animal, featuring Ranbir Kapoor in a double role, excited us for the sequel. The ending of Ganapath, featuring another Tiger Shroff, left us in shock.
18. Tejas
It was a well-intentioned flick but turned out to be unintentionally funny. The protagonist coolly says that she wanted to infiltrate into Pakistan. One expected her senior to hesitate at least for a second. Instead, the senior immediately agreed to the plan, as if she wanted to go to Pali Hill. And the Ram Mandir angle in the end was forced and made a joke of the film.
19. Aankh Micholi
This film boasts of one of the worst endings of all time. If you don’t believe it, do check it out when it drops on OTT next month.
20. UT 69
The makers focused only on Raj Kundra’s jail time and skipped details about his court case and whether or not he’s guilty. After a point, the film became unbearable as the story didn’t move. It also gave a feeling that the protagonist is having a relaxed time in jail.
21. Khichdi 2
The film stopped being funny after a point as the gags just didn’t stop. The Paanthukistan angle was cool but was badly utilized. The death of the king was unimaginative, making one wonder how come the makers couldn’t think of something better.
22. Animal
The “You have a big pelvis; you can produce healthy children” was a bit too much, even for a film like this.
23. The Archies
The choreography in the ‘Wooly Bully’ song went wrong, leading to a lot of trolling.
24. Dunki
The ‘I Want To Go To Lavatory’ scene failed to evoke laughs. A film by Rajkumar Hirani should have had funnier scenes.
