First, it was Rajesh Khanna. A decade later, it was Amitabh Bachchan. Now, three decades after the phenomenon, it is Salman Khan who is enjoying the kind of superstardom that only these two superstars had ever enjoyed. While there is one thing called bringing in big numbers, courtesy solid entertainers, it is another to do it consistently film after film.
This is something that Salman Khan is doing ever since the release of Dabangg and from then till now, he has enjoyed 10 straight superhits to blockbusters to all time blockbusters in a row!
Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2, Jai Ho, Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and now Sultan - it is stuff that dreams are made of.
With Sultan bringing in Rs. 31.50 crore* more on Friday (a working day when only a few offices and schools were closed in some parts of the country), the film is now in the vicinity of Rs. 105.34 crore*. It is in fact now a given that 150 crore would be crossed before Sunday comes to a close, which is a remarkable feat indeed. No film has ever managed 150 crore in five days flat and Sultan is now all set to set that record.
In fact in these five days, the film is actually challenging the first 7 day total of following biggies:
Happy New Year - 152 crore
Chennai Express - 149.96 (not including Thursday paid previews)
Ek Tha Tiger - 137.15 (first 7 days - the film released on Wednesday)
Bang Bang - 128.03 crore (first 7 days - the film released on Thursday)
Sultan is chasing several big records and if the film manages to show a good hold on the weekdays too, history is set to be created by this Ali Abbas Zafar directed affair.
Day 1 – Rs. 36.54 Cr. (Pre Eid),
Day 2 – Rs. 37.30 Cr. (Eid),
Day 3 – Rs. 31.50 Cr.
Total – Rs. 105.34 Cr
