Almost two months ago, we had broken the news that Kalpana Lajmi has signed Karisma Kapoor to play the title role in CHIEF MINISTER-JI, which revolves around a housewife who becomes the Chief Minister of a state at the behest of her husband. Well, Kalpana had approached a lot of top names for the husbands role, which is reportedly modelled on Laloo Prasad Yadavs life. It was heard that Govinda would enact the role in the film. But the role has landed in Rahul Devs lap! Yes, Ive signed him for the project. Hes agreed to experiment with his looks and hair, Kalpana tells us. And what about Karisma? Is she okay with the idea of Rahul playing her on-screen husband? I had a lengthy meeting with her yesterday and informed her of my decision to cast Rahul. I told her that it was difficult getting a mainstream hero to play her husbands part and she understood my predicament. In fact, I also met Santosh Sivan yesterday who told me that Rahul has done a great job in ASOKA. That boosted my confidence further, she states. According to Kalpana, Karisma will sign on the dotted line in June and the film will go on the floors in March/April next year. I want to shoot the film at one stretch, not in bits and parts. Thats why I have agreed to wait for next year for bulk dates, she states. Meanwhile, DAMAN has been granted tax-free status in Delhi and Assam. The film is scheduled for release on May 4 all over.
