An amazing movie by the Planman motion pictures that has been brilliantly made by Rituparno Ghosh equally well supported by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan.Amitabh plays an ageing actor who completely adores Shakespeare He is simply too good to be ignored in this movie.Rest of the casts have also given a brilliant support to the story.I'm sure every one who love watching art movie must have seen this movie.

The Last Lear, directed by Rituparno Ghosh is one of the best movies made under the Planman motion pictures. The film starring Amitabh Bachchan,Preity Zinta,Arjun Rampal,Divya Dutta,Shefali Shah and Jisshu Sengupta. Amitabh Bachchan has given a lifetime performance in the movie. The movie is based on Utpal Dutt's play Aajker Shahjahan. The story revolves around Harish Mishra (Amitabh Bachchan), a retired Shakespearean theater actor who spent thirty years and nine months on stage and then suddenly quit. Amitabh's character is immensely passionate about Shakespeare,who believes that nothing even comparable can ever be written, knows all his plays by heart, lives in those stories, condemns modern cinema and considers theater as a much higher platform for directors and actors to convey their message to the audience. It is a collective effort by all the cast where each stands out and one movie that should not be missed at any cost. After his relatively ineffective foray into mainstream cinema with Raincoat, Rituparna succeeded in telling a story in the conversational style that he is a master of. A film that I will remember for the multidimensional characters and their stories replete with dilemmas, brilliant performances and memorable moments. A must watch movie which shows the brilliance of Amitabh Bachchan and Rituparno Ghosh's combination.

THE LAST LEAR cannot be consider as a commercial movie, its more like an ART movie. It feels you bore sometimes, the only thing to watch is Big B, his performance is great. Preity was good enough. Specially her stressed sequences, while smoking. Arjun was superb, Shefali was mind-blowing, Divya is so-so. Overall its packed with powerful performances but the story is not that promising. SO-SO..

I thought this movie was GREAT!!! outstanding, memorable...it was really good, the performances are the best, preity showed her versatility (can't wait for heaven on earth) and big b was great 2 I also think that the majority of the indian cinema goers only like the lovey-dovey movies and don't appreciate the good movies. I also like the lovey-dovey movies and movies like these. The audience is allowed for their opinions however, a critic like Taran Adarsh is BIASED for sure, he always favour useless movies like SIngh is Kinng, movies that will be financially successful. Indian critics and audience...disappointing

This is an outstanding film. The acting is one of the main highlights of the film. Big B has done something that no actor in the world can do better. His intense style is amazing. Preity was perfect, and she excelled in all of the film's scenes. She portrayed her character so beautifully throughout that every person can understand and relate to her agony. Arjun Rampal has never been better. Shefali Shah is one amazingly talented actress who can do any role with grace. Divya Dutta was nice.

Its ABsolutely an out-of-the-world movie!!!! Ohhhhh what a faultless performance!!! What superb acting!!!! What rivetting theatrics!!!! What perfect voice modulation!!!! What amazing dialogue delivery!!!!!! What wave of hand, what piercing eyes, what brooding voice!!!! Everything just top class!!!! If Shakespeare were alive today, he sure would be pleased as a punch with Aby's 'over-the-top' performance!!!! Yes, I say 'over-the-top' because that is precisely what THEATRE acting is all about. And that is precisely what Aby's character is supposed to be in this movie! So all those self-proclaimed-critiques who have said "the acting was a little over the top", take note: the acting wasn't a 'little' over the top, it was 'totally' over the top. And it was so because a Shakespearean theatre act is all about being just that - over the top!!! Priety has done an excellent job! She was too good! Just too good! And so was Shefali - absolutely fantastic! And Arjun Rampal - simply marvellous! And Amitabh? Well.... Amitabh is just AMITABH!!! After Black I had thought he can't better himself now. But with The Last Lear he did just that - YES, he has outdid his Black act!!! And how!!!
