When a director,who in his debut film gave the film industry its biggest ever hit,which is running to packed houses 13 years after its release,decides to make a film after a hiatus of eight years,you know it is not going to be run of the mill.And when his film stars the biggest superstar of the country,you know you are in for something special.As Adi chopra and Shah Rukh Khan,two of the power houses of the indian film industry combine,we know we have a sure shot winner on our hands.I can assure you that as you walk out of the cinema hall,you wont be satisfied.it is not because the film doesnt live up to your expectations,but because you have got so much from the movie that you are yearning for more.You want to watch it again. Yes,Rab Ne Bana di Jodi does this to you.It mesmerizes you,not with the visually captivating swiss alps or the LAmborginis that you have seen in Yashraj movies,but by the sheer simpiclity of the movie and its lead man-Surinder Sahni.the movie begins with Suri and Taani getting married, due to the death of taani's prospective husband and because her dying father wants her to marry Suri.she confesses that she will never be able to love the simple looking,clean hearted Suri, not because of any flaws in him,but because she has seen so much pain in life that she now doesnt have love to give.Slowly she startes respecting him but still love has no place in her heart for him.He loves her deeply and decides to win her love by playing Raj,a flamboyant,gregarious,immensely funny and somewhat wannabe guy,who is her dance partner for a competition.How and why she doesnt realise that its Suri sans the moustache,with the spiked hair will be a mystery to many and rightly so.How he then tries to woo her forms the crux of the story,with some really funny moments thrown in.she begins to fall in love with Raj.Will it be Raj the guy who brought a smile to her face. or who will it be the simple,honest Suri,who stood by her when she went through a mental turmoil.watch it to find out. There are many noteworthy sequences in the movie like the bonding between Suri and his closest friend,Bobby(Vinay Pathak),Suri's initial scenes with Taani,Raj's chemistry with Taani.The climax is the highpoint of the movie and will touch a chord with all and sundry. Also watch out for the end credits,it brings a smile to your face. Salim-Suleiman's music is par excellence.You do not know which song to pick as the best,be it the soft,hummable Haule Haule or the romantic Tujhme Rab DIkhta hai. the visuals are brilliant captured by cinematographer Ravi K chandran.Adi chopra is so good in the director's seat that you wonder why he does not direct movies more often.Vinay pathak as Shah rukh's best friend is immensely lovable. one would like to see him more often on the big screen.Now for the lead cast.Debutant Anushka Sharma does so well that you have to pinch yourself to believe that this is her first movie.she is a complete natural and fits into the role so easily that you start wondering if this is the finest performance ever by any debutant.there is not a single flaw that one could point in her performance.volumes and volumes have been written about Shah Rukh KHan in his twenty years of being in the industry.if you want to know why he is the badshah, the film provides you the answer.he slips so effortlessly into his roles as both suri and raj,that you actually wonder if it is the same person who is essaying the two, very different roles .every time we write about a Shah Rukh Performance being,undoubtedly the best of his career,he outdoes himself.RNBDJ iS no different. I read somewhere about Shah Rukh saying that there is a Surinder Sahni in each one of us.After seeing RNBDJ,you would want to say,'I wish there was a Shah Rukh Khan in each one of us."
