it's not easy to understand the flick in one go. the execution of the flick was fantastic. saif as veer was remarkable-- as sardar he really left a mark. made me nostalgic. harleen was cute. rishi was incredible,nitu as cool breeze and finally deepika - best performance till date. but personally i felt that the foot tapping number twist was complete disaster. saif was not at all energetic, it felt he was tired. i mean i wanted to see more dance in this number.

Love Aaj Kal - **1/2 Denial – when afraid of something the common defense mechanism one uses is Denial, here its phobic for commitment, it is about this and how it takes an affect on your life, if it is not resolved satisfactorily/ ideally. But since its bollywood it needs to be resolved and it gets resolved after 120mins as in all routine run of the mills. Ten mins into d movie, Imtiaz Ali succeeds in getting us glued into d world of Jai and Meera as we see d modern relationship growing in tit bit scenes told interestingly d young Gen way and even breaking up through a break up party, quite interesting you say. Enter Rishi Kapoor and he shares his story in his younger days, and we see young rishi replaced by another saif who’s a Punjabi munda now, and from here both these stories move parallel ahead, showing us the change in way one treats love yesterday (kal) and today (aaj). Does it succeed? Is it different from the usual ones? Well yes but partly!! The retro theme works big, saif makes a big impact as the lover who takes it to himself to express his love n even get married. Also as the young confused guy he fits into the role, tailor made for him. Both roles being contrast saif manages to impress in each. Deepika gets a role where she is in dilemma whether to be active or passive in love and being passive throughout she waits eternally for our jai to pronounce his love for her. One could have done wonders with this character but she’s just there, falls short of expectations. One should agree with the fact that she’s just above average and not extraordinary as been projected since her entry into Mumbai. Just by acting with the top heroes she’s not gonna get into the A grade heroine list. As our hero says one line in the movie, “Your Smile is the most beautiful thing in you” well I agree only on that. Rishi plays the role that stays in background but guides the hero to his destination; as usual he is at his best. It’s a pleasant surprise to see Neethu Singh/ Kapoor after such a long hiatus on screen, n is still looking great. And the gal who plays the role of Harleen is kind of cute and brings a smile each time she appears on screen. She stands out in few scenes. Well I would also like to know her name from Saif, which is missing. Rahul Khanna got nothing much to do, plays his part efficiently in 2 ½ scenes he gets. First half moves very swiftly and keeps you hooked it’s only in the 2nd half that it gets protracted, boring and even irritating in the penultimate reels. Screenplay loses hold in the later half. Don’t know what could’ve been done but feel could’ve been better. Music is too good, twist makes tap your feet, chor bazaari n ye dooriyan touch your hearts, aahun aahun is good to listen but in the movie its placed as the end credit rolls and you’re so tired that u r waiting to come out of the theatre. What starts as an enjoyable ride ends as a tiring journey…‼ Imtiyaz as a director could’ve been better but is still good, he intermingles both the stories competently what could have been complicated is presented in a feel good manner, alas if he had a tighter screenplay like in his previous attempts. Final word: thought of giving 3* rating but then did not enjoy it more than last week, so stopping at less than three. One things for sure impatient guys n gals will hate it and ppl just in love or lost in love will appreciate it, n I think they r the one’s who are giving it 4 and 5. But realistically it’s above average n that’s it. Let those ratings be restricted to dch, lagaan, chak de or tzp. Let there be some difference between 3, 4 and 5. As far as box office one should comment after second week cos last few weeks films like kambhakt ishq etc have got 90% dip in collections in 2nd week and it shows that people are just attracted by the promos and when they don’t get what is expected the fall in collections is inevitable and am sure collections will drop for this one too. Well for now lets wait for Kaminey…‼

Very disappointing. Ordinary movie. Waste of time and money. Imtiaz Ali has realy dispointed with this movie. When the movie ended, I thought, it was an intermission. No dramatic events, or for that matter, meaningful events, throughout the movie. Very very ordinary stuff. Not worth watching!!

Just a bad movie. Saif seems not to get enough of Deepika and he's kissing her almost in every scene. The film is scarily too Hollywood with pre-marital affairs and everything. All of indian movies, like Kambakht Ishq, are just trying too hard to be Hollywood. Saif Ali Khan is old, even though he does not seem to be, and that fact stays in your mind. Deepika acted better than previous films and I am not won by her performance though.

As the famous (haha) saying goes "Is duniya mein do tarah ke log hote hai." There are those who think films are made so we can escape to another world and just have a good time, forget about the bills that need to be paid, the relationships that are struggling or the biggest question of all "what should we cook tonight?" Aur doosri tarah ke log hai who think films are supposed to be educational, thought-provoking and to some extent life-changing...or whatever. We don't agree or disagree with either of these groups of people, but honestly speaking you cannot watch serious films all the time but you can watch a nice romantic comedy any day! So, yesterday was our lucky day and we managed to watch "Love Aaj Kal" on the day of the release @ 7:00 p.m. As you might have sensed this from our opening lines, needless to say that we really enjoyed the movie aur yeh film hamari umeedon pe khari utri. Love Aaj Kal is about Jai Vardhan Singh (Saif Ali Khan) and Meera Pandit (Deepika Padukone) and it's about Veer Singh (Rishi Kapoor) and Harleen Kaur (Florence Brudenell-Bruce). It's about a love story that begins with a break-up. It's about a love story that begins at pehli nazar. It's about Love, Aaj aur Kal. Imtiaz has done it again. Another romantic-comedy, another set of characters you can relate to, you cry with, you laugh with. A movie filled with fun dialogues, real characters, that leaves you with a gushy feeling inside, puts a smile on your face and gives you satisfaction that it was worth spending money on! The director used flashback in a very innovative way, it was reminiscent of "Rang De Basanti." Hindi films are known for using flashbacks as a way to tell stories and we feel that flashbacks are just a tactic that filmmakers use when they get lazy. However, Imtiaz has done it in a way that made sense for the film. Some people might get confused, a few were in the theater, by the way the past and present were transitioned together. But we felt this style of editing reinforced the theme of the movie. Pritam composed the music and managed to deliver songs that capture the essence of the film. There are a couple of tracks that really stand out, all for different reasons. "Yeh dooriyan" was a slow, romantic track that played along with the beginning credits. "Chor bazari" really stands out because of the signature move that is used in the song...great job Bosco-Ceaser! "And we twist" is just a really catchy number but our favorite thing about the song was the nagin move...also it was so cute because Saif was trying so hard in that song. The costumes were done by Anaita Shroff Adajania and Dolly Ahluwalia. Designers did a great job with the costumes and paid special attention to the costumes of the kal ki love story. We know they did a great job because Jasmine's mom said it seemed like they had copied everything from the time she went to college in Chandigarh. Especially Harleen's character. Oh by the way, Harleen was way too cute... the old love story is adorable! Saif gave a good performance and seems to have worked hard to speak fluent Punjabi with a Dilli accent. However, Saif was once again playing a type of character we've seen him play many time before - ex: "Hum Tum" and "Salaam Namaste." It was definetily Saif's movie, but Deepika was a pleasant surprise, this has been her best performance until now. She has immensely improved in her dialogue delivery and also managed to give an array of facial expressions...she was awesome in Chor Bazari and the scene right after. Rishi Kapoor was a treat to watch, he was the sweetest sardarji and was a perfect fit for the character. One very important aspect of all three films Imtiaz has directed has been the dialogues. There were dialogues in the movie that made us feel so ecstatic. We'll give you a list - don't read if you don't want to ruin your movie-watching experience! *Aam janta - mango people *Main too gayee (this is way too filmi and hilarious) *Ajeeb hai, karte hain...we love this because that's how we think! *Main senti hogayi *Tum hamesha correct bolti ho Jaaneman (not sure if it's completely correct, but loved that he said Jaaneman!) And some scenes that were too filmi not to talk about: (SPOILER ALERT!) *In the old love story, when Veer Singh goes to see Harleen in Calcutta...it was so Romeo and Juliet, she's standing in the balcony! *Climax of old love story, DDLJ alert! Veer asks Harleen's mom to let her go...sirf uske saath hi woh khush reh sakti hai etc. Totally DDLJ! Wish we could discuss each scene with you, it was awesome. Overall, an entertaining romantic comedy that gives everyone an insight into love stories of the past and present. It looks at the simplicity of kal ki love stories and the complexity of aaj ki love stories. Old Veer Singh, Rishi Kapoor's character, said that Jai has all brain and no heart. That aaj ki relationships are just so thought out, but kal ki relationships were all heart. But this film, it was the perfect balance of heart and mind. It was practical and filmi. Aur kya chahiye?
