life partner is a new comedy on block and a lot is expected because govinda is again back in a comic role.life partner has a fresh story to tell and the screenplay does full justice to the story. the screenplay has its ups and downs but in the end it turns out to be a decent entertainer. the first half is filled in with punches while the second half gets onto more on emtional track.the climax could have been better executed. dialouges are good.background score is decent. music is average.cinematography is beautifull. direction by rumi jaffery is good and he has the talent to make good comedies.coming to performances govinda truly makes you laugh throughout the movie.his protyrayal of jeet is totally humourous. another surprise is genelia d'souza, she just slips into her character and delivers a great performance.her comic timing is superb.fardeen khan is good.tusshar kapoor is decent.prachi desai is also a delight to watch.anupam kher goes over the top in few scenes.darshan jariwala is excellent.vikram gokhale is good.amrita rao is okay.the supproting cast is alright.overall,LIFE PARTER is a decent family entertainer with light moments aplenty.

Having been a Govinda fan since the very beginning of the 90s, I honestly believe he is one of the best actors to carry off over-the-top comic roles effortlessly, infact like no other. Whether it is as Bunnu in Deewana Mastana, Chotte Miyan in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan or Monu in the brilliant Haseena Maan Jayegi, Govinda has outshined the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt who command bigger fan-following and better screen presence. So the only reason to catch Life Partner, was the man himself. But sadly while his character and performance was a disappointment, the movie wasn’t. It was a decent, one time watch. The story covers three different mindsets when its comes to marriages in India. One of a guy, who wants to fall in love and then get married (Fardeen Khan), second who belongs to a conservative family and believes only in marriage arranged by his parents (Tusshar Kapoor) and third a person who hates marriages and suffers from commitment phobia (Govinda). Life Partner also deals with couples suffering from incompatibility post marriage, love and arranged.Make no mistake, this ain’t a very serious take on relationships, its a comedy with a couple of loud characters and funny dialogues. What works for Life Partner * Since the film deals with genuine issues, its very easy to understand and connect with. Its a slightly negative take on marriage, but isn’t the word of mouth on marriages, including quotes by famous people, rather negative? Ever heard too many positives sayings / quotes on marriage? And as the film is a comedy you do need to take it with a pinch of salt. * Some scenes, especially in the second half are extremely funny. The scene involving Fardeen Khan dozing off while driving, is rib tickling. Credit should go to Fardeen, in what is probably his career best performance. * Cape Town has been captured absolutely brilliantly by Sameer Arya, this alone is worth the price of your ticket. * Tushhar Kapoor does very well, although some of his expressions make you cringe on your seats. * Prachi Desai looks beautiful, its hard to take your eyes off her. Acting wise does well * The music by Pritan is great, Kuke stands out due to the track being distinctly different from others. What disappoints.. * Probably the biggest disappointment is Govinda. The role was just about perfect for Akshay Kumar, who infact was the first-choice but turned down the offer due to date issues. Govinda tries hard, but it just isn’t the kinda role that could do justice to his talent. A lady killer and Govinda, hard to digest, ain’t it? * Genelia disappoints too. She is good in a few scenes, as usual her super expressive face is captured with quite a few close ups, but a lot of screeching and screaming is a turn-off. * Also the way Genelia treats her husband, is way too exaggerated and should have been toned down a bit. But it sure does make you give marriage a second thought. * Rumi Jaffrey’s direction is a mixed bag, the first half is average while the second half moves at a decent pace, filled with enough entertainment to ensure a smile on your face as the credits roll. With a better first half, Life Partner would have been a much better watch. * Logically, the climax is absolutely stupid, a complete dud. But you very much expect it to be, ain’t it a Bollywood movie afterall? Happy-happy ending in a must! In seconds all grey characters turn white.. Overall, Life Partner is most definitely worth a single watch, if not on the big screen, wait for the DVD. In a year, that has produced multiple comic disasters, Life Partner turns out to be a better than expected watch. For a change, you dont really have to leave your brains back at home!

This is a funny concept of arranged versus love marriage. It was hard to believe that Fardeen would love someone as selfish, shrieking and shallow like Genelia as much as he did. It was predictable what would happen.

Movie was great and has full comedy and entertainment value. Performances by everybody were superb. Special mentions: Govinda, Genelia D'Souza, Tusshar Kapoor and Prachi Desai. Govinda and Genelia D'Souza are the two reasons that make this film adorable. Both's chemistry (yes they had their own sort of chemistry) makes the scenes superb.

There are different types of comedies. What the audience has been subjected to for over a year now…
There are different types of comedies. What the audience has been subjected to for over a year now has been the inane slapstick comedy that causes irritation, instead of evoking laughter. Subtle humor has been the hallmark of Kishore Kumar, Amol Palekar and Vinay Pathak’s films. Then there are those comedies which may be witty, yet silly and genuinely funny at the same time. If your taste in such comedy could devour Partner and No Entry among recent examples, then acclaimed writer Rumi Jaffrey’s ‘Life Partner’ will tickle your funny bone while also providing you with some rational drama that often jumps to melodramatic levels. Nevertheless, the film is better than one would expect….. Karan (Fardeen Khan) plays the lover boy whose love marriage turns him into a house-man of sorts, Bhavesh (Tusshar Kapoor) plays the orthodox Gujju who will abide by the archaic customs established by his conventional father (Darshan Jariwala) while Jeet (Govinda) plays a relentless divorce lawyer to whom marriage is the biggest mistake that one can make. In a turn of events, Karan marries his spoilt rich girlfriend, whose father’s negligence in training her led to her disastrous experiments in the household. Bhavesh goes to Gujarat to find a suitable bride but ends up marrying his father’s childhood friend’s daughter Prachi and Jeet disappears from the screen momentarily. Genelia’s disasters at home and excessive indulgence with inactivity frustrate Karan who is working hard to maintain their lifestyle. Prachi’s father (Vijay Gokhale) is an open-minded rich Gujarati businessman who is deeply rooted to the culture but respects the independence and choices of his daughter. His principles are in direct conflict with those of Bhavesh’s father and it leads to some realistic and likeable scenes. While the film doesn’t clearly take sides for or against marriage per se, it is Govinda’s witty dialogue that makes you want to do so. The film is well written by Rumi Jaffrey and he successfully breaks away from the stereotypes of inane slapstick comedies to give us something more to reflect upon. The screenplay and editing truly hammer the film but the appropriate usage of witty dialogues draw correct emphasis on situations rather than those double meaning retarded jokes we have been subjected to. Pritam’s musical score consists of a garba melody, Aage Aage that reminds us of some hit folk song and Kouke koyaliya which has been rendered in such a horrifying manner by Shreya Ghoshal that it bec0mes enjoyable for a while…. Only for a while. Govinda has not had been able to replicate Partner’s success over the past couple of years but when it comes to a comic interpretation of society’s stresses, there is hardly a better actor for Jeet’s role. His performance comes with his trademark style of hilarious expressions, distinct dialogue delivery, one-of-a-kind dancing and exemplary comic timing that elevates a funny dialogue to a higher level. Fardeen Khan gives one of his best performances in the type of role that he is becoming increasingly comfortable with. Tusshar does not give one much to write about but he does justice to his character and he takes the joke on his sister and father in good humor! Anupam Kher and Vijay Gokhale are maestros in their business and therefore, as reliable as always. Among the ladies, Prachi Desai stands out with her convincing performance as a modern housewife yearning to break apart from the strange traditions that threaten to destroy her married life. While Life Partner may not be the best comedy of all time but surely, it is, of recent times. Worth a watch to rid the mind of all the hyped concoctions of the so called ‘new cinema’ and totally unlike many ‘leave the brains at home’ type Govinda movies that we have seen before. - 6.52 on a scale of 1-10.
