A remake should be judged by the merits its predecessor had seized in and the flaws of its own while recreating something that has already been positioned as a yardstick; not once, not twice but successively four times in a row. For that matter, DRISHYAM directed by Nishikant Kamat manages to maintain the legacy of providing one of the most satisfying thrillers in recent Bollywood. The road ahead is full of unanticipated twists and turns but you won't feel shaky as the grip is mostly airtight and the ride is pretty much smooth in terms of staying honest to the subject. DRISHYAM, despite a few slack strokes of imperfections in various fields remains a desirable thriller for the most in its 2 hour 43 minutes long duration; and that's an achievement in itself. Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) is an almost illiterate middle-class family man with a questionably 'decked-up all the time' wife (Shriya Sharan, a complete misfit) and two lovely daughters by his side. Running a local cable network for his living, Salgaonkar is a street-smart fellow who loves to learn from the movies he watches at his office in leisure. One dark night, his family accidentally falls for a crime that could lead them all to the pit of death but a good family man would never let that happen. He has to stand like an immovable wall between his family and the law-enforcement powers stage-managed by a strict officer and a desperate mother (the terrific Tabu). Rest is the cat-mouse chase between the two, packed with some real nail- biting moments of anxiety, twists of terrific nature and an extended climax that is more rewarding than the whole film. DRISHYAM's biggest force is in Jeethu Joseph's taut writing. A story that has all the emotional strings attached to the thrills of the undying efforts of covering up the patches of a perfect crime! A screenplay that doesn't leave much to complain about and a couple of seasoned performances to top it all! The first part takes its own time to set things up in their designed places. This is the part where you also feel crabby and argumentative about the casting of its lead. The innocence and honesty Mohanlal carried of a middle-aged middle-class family-guy in its first and original Malayalam version are often missed here by large margin. No doubt, Ajay brings a certain kind of intensity in his performance but the vulnerability of an illiterate small-time cable-operator is something that he lacks big time. The camera-work by the latest talk-of-the-town Avinash Arun is soothing, pleasing and sometimes, old-school too when needed. (Is 'the boys diving in the water' his trademark shot? His last 3 films KILLA, MASAAN

Drishyam is a brilliant thriller, and it will look amazing if you have not watched the original Malayalam/Telugu/Kannada/Tamil Version of this film. This film showcased the elements of a typical Indian middle class family to its best. Coming to the direction nothing new all credits must be given to Jeethu Joseph for his wonderful story line and the way he dealed with it in the malayalam version of this film. Star cast satisfied the audience with there striking performances(Every one). Music is below par for the music lovers of this era. A WORTH WATCH IF YOU R A STORY AND SCREENPLAY LOVER... And if you want to watch a film with ur family in this weekend then Drishyam is a perfect choice

All characters are well performed specifically #Annu ,and Gaitonde will be recognize by directors in future , movie s fabulous, whole credit goes to Director , don't underestimate the power of uneducated man From the starting we know what happened ,why happened ,even after that known all these things the culprit is right there in your face from the word go, but the catch here is how will you prove it. Ajay and tabu Both have been National Award winners sorry trio Nishikhant Kamat who well known for Mumbai blasting feature fill Mumbai meri jaan . The film takes off as a typical family drama. The first half of the film is intentionally slow-paced and shows to the audience the lighter moments in the family of Vijay This half combines the elements of drama and low power genres. The audience gets completely absorbed in the twist of events that begin to unfold from the end of the first half. The second half is more like a thriller and is about how the family, despite the vengeful villainy of a corrupt cop, stands its ground even as the law takes its course.

What a movie , Drishyam visuals can be deceptive the title keeps promise to what to expect from this flick , After long time Ajay Devgn has given power house performance like past be it Gangajal ,Zakhm ,Aparajan,Legend of Bhagat Singh, Once upon time in Mumbaai and Deewangee category film and. Wait for such performance was worthwhile and Ajay Devgn is class apart and shows why he is weighed heavily and what caliber he is . So is performance of Tabu and rest of star cast . Believe me if you want to watch meaningful cinema this is worth watching ,Even if Ajay Devgn gets National award for this wont be shocking for me . Rest assured its more of classic movie must watch ...

DRISHYAM REVIEW- Hell yeah, just watched the Masterpiece, gem of thriller. Wow is the only word is in mouth now for this movie. Heard a remake of national award Malayalam movie is coming in bollywood and i was just waiting like anything for this movie. Trailer didn't offered much but it was promising. Then critics reviews came which took my expectations to sky level. And finally after watching it i must say movie worths it. A rare thriller which was made to look realistic only not as filmy masala content. First half takes time to set platform, sets movie plot then 2nd half blows you away with its masterclass planning and scenes. A simple plot, a common man who is 4th std failed not much educated tries to hide his family's crime from so called educated police officers. But the content and screenplay is so realistic that it makes this simple story a masterpiece. Even a Long runtime of 2 hrs 40 mins looks too tight and glues us to Our seat. Writer has done an extraordinary job, people will not forget this story in lifetime. Kudos to him and screenplay maker . Music wasn't much needed for movie, still 1 song after interval is situational which plays important role to make scene much tight. Entire star cast acted like real incident and really made me feel that its all happening in real in front of me. Ajay devgn the man who is the soul of this movie. His acting is just out of the world. Those intense eyes, innocent expressions, scary scenes and some emotional scenes as if this movie made for his acting only. Surely best performance of the year till date and i don't think someone will give better performance than him in this year at least, he deserves an award for this movie. Tabbu role is exactly half to Ajay according to runtime of movie. She did whatever expected from her role. Other star cast did fab job, each and every actor gave his best for their roles. Director Nishikant Kamat proves his skills and talent metal again here. He never left movie's grip till the end. Even the last ending scene of the movie was watchable and gives goosebumps. Hats off to him. He already had remake in hand which made direction much easier so there was no chance to make movie a crap. Overall a must watch for all. Only kids wont understand it, but other audience like classes, masses, youngsters and even seniors will love it. Go for this one, take 3 hrs from your life and enjoy the rare and the best thriller ever made in bollywood. Don't miss, you cant afford to miss this masterpiece. Here we have got the best movie of 2015. Last line, 'Its like,'Shawshank Redemption in bollywood. 9/10 * stars by me :)

Its definitely a golden period for Indian cinema as they are producing some great back to back movies... now Dhrishyam its been made in multiple languages before...n no surprise the reason is surely the script that's d reason the stars are not promoting this movie... one hell of a movie u cant match Tabu and specially Ajay in their acting skill. With a great story the acting is very good. Ajay Devgn is simply the best in such role..and he can out class anyone when it comes to such type of role. Tabu at its best..other actors did the acting pretty well its a must watch film and a sure shot winner. After Baby Piku Tanu weds Manu and Bajrangi Bhaijaan now comes Drishyam...i have not watched the Malyalam Drishyam but this movie cannot be compared with other remakes...and i seriously don't have worlds to express my view on this movie as it is a class movie and a family drama movie with one of the best script and actors.

Ajay Devgn once again proves that why is he the most intense actor of Bollywood. Drishyam is a well made remake of the original version. The makers just got it right. Early morning I went through certain reviews (the one mentioned by Rediff calling it as an ordinary film), by no means it is an ordinary film. It is an exceptional work brilliantly performed by Ajay Devgn and Tabu. Critics can rate it negatively but this film will certainly entertain you. The film starts on a slow note but picks up pace rapidly. The thrill will keep you on the edge of seat. Those who have seen the original version of Sir Mohanlal will also enjoy watching this remake. Ajay Devgn as a family man is tough and hard. Tabu has done full justice to her role. This movie is going to be your perfect watch for this weekend.

Wasn't planning to watch a first day last show after Ajay Devgan's Action Jackson but to my pleasant surprise a wonderful story backed by strong content here comes the plot as interesting and gripping that you won't wanna miss any part of it!! Wonderful performances by Ajay Devgan and Tabu! Shriya was lovely looking sweetest girl as always but overall a movie backed by great performances. The story about how a family oriented man can take life so seriously when his family is in trouble!! Nice and smooth ride at the beginning may be a loose grip for some but as the movie starts picking up you won't feel like waiting for what is going to happen next and would clap on some scenes too!! Well i did ?? Would recommend all types of cinema lovers to catch the movie as its every penny worth! One song from Rahat Fateh Ali Khan wasn't too bad. Thumbs up All the very best to the cast and crew. You've done a good job

There are lots of things great about Nishikant Kamat's latest feature, but that doesn't mean it can be touted as a great film independently. Starting with a scene so mystic in its own way, the film starts with a flashback. Characters are brilliantly placed into the plot as we witness a family setup being created. Things take a turn when an act of crime enters this scene. One more act of crime follows, and that is when one gets the vibe of a thriller coming into form. The 50 minute second half, which is also the most engaging minutes for any Bollywood film this year, steals the show and keeps us on the edge of our seats as we are smothered by a series of twists. If one does not feel goosebumps during that master-stroke climax, then I don't know what will. The build-up is great, and so is the score that accompanies it, but if one pays attention to details throughout the film, even TataSky's native adverts look more professional. The writing is to be blamed. I am all okay with the idea of remaking, but borrowing the frames, hiring lookalikes, and even using some of the dialogs makes the whole drama look like an answer written by an Engineering student: everything out of place and irrelevant. Plus, apart from few minor, clever changes, there is no hint of any improvement which should have been necessary and which would have made it more appealing to the learned masses. I had problems with the whole cast; like they all watched the original (2013) and just re-enacted their roles. It hardly works, and now this can be taken as a testimonial study by filmmakers in the future before they enter the remake scene. Devgn could not handle the fatherly figure well, nor could Tabu create thunders with her uniform. The guy who played the corrupt policeman Gaitonde acted like he just came out of a wrestling pit and was made to deliver his cocky, cringe-worthy dialogs. The child artistes were fine, if not oversmart. Even Kapoor was a let-down. The film also questions justice and what a person should do at times like this. Although, the plot constantly makes the family look like protagonists in spite of their deeds, and falsely guides us what it thinks is right (or should be right). But if you look closer, you will realize the climax answers all the questions about righteousness. BOTTOM LINE: Drishyam, as an edge-of-the-seat thriller, does not tell you how to act during time of brutal crimes, but it finely creates a story so charming that you will want to talk about it with your friends just to understand what is right and what is wrong. VERDICT: 6 stars out of 10. Watch it! Can be watched with a typical Indian family? YES

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie inspite of seeing the Japanese movie not the novel. Ajay was brilliant. He got into the skin of the character. He looked like an ordinary guy. He lost all his muscles. Even the kind of shirts he wore with full sleeves did justice to the role. Tabu acted well too. I think she should settle down as she was looking old. The movie is something very different from your regular Bollywood trash. I have seen many Korean, Japanese, French, Hollywood thrillers. And drishyam was a good drama/ thriller too. I am *uckin' fed up with majority Bollywood stars and movies. Even if the script doesn't require, the hero is showing off abs and dancing skills. Majority of 'em is filled with vulgar item songs which is getting monotonous. People who enjoy thrillers should check out the treatment, confessions of a murder, bereavement and malevolence, marshland, poker night, 13 sins, the secret in their eyes, the shrine, freeway killer, ittefaq (borrowed from signposts to murder ), adam green's spiral and frozen, the keeper of lost causes, cell 211. People who expect item songs, hero bashing goons ala matrix style action, hero showing dancing skills, hero flaunting abs, the same *uckin' monotonous Bollywood obnoxious films should be with care before watching this film.
