I, Veera Kaur, Left the Right handed batsman. Silence. 2 minutes after that you realize it is a joke and you need to laugh on it!!!!! And it is said at least 10 times in the movie. Anurag Singh might be the only one laughing on this line in this Universe and that includes the aliens of District 9, Alien, ET, Koi…Mil Gaya, etc.
Is batting all about hitting 6 sixes in one over? Is winning a match in cricket all about winning it in the last ball? Is Punjab all about singing and dancing? Though the obvious answer to all these questions is NO, but for Mr. Anurag Singh, director of Dil Bole Hadippa!!!, the answer is YES. We fail to understand the brilliance of Chak De! India. Normally, we would have liked India to take the last penalty stroke and score the winner (an offensive move), but in Chak De! India, Amin made India save the last penalty stroke (a defensive move) and still get as many cheers. In Rocky we have Stallone losing the fight in the end and yet managed to get the cheers from crowd by giving a spirited effort against star boxer. This is what makes a film good. I hate Lagaan’s ending also for that matter.

To start off, we see Rani Mukherjee who wants to play for India in WC 2011 and open alongside the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, challenges any bowler of Amritsar to come forward and stop her from hitting six sixes in six balls. Guess who comes up – Bobby Bedi aka Tiny Singh of RNBDJ. Bechara in every film he plays a loser. Here comes my first technical question to Anurag Singh – ‘What do you think is the use of batting gloves in cricket?’ His answer – ‘To protect your hands from getting hurt.’ But the real answer is batting gloves are used to minimize the vibrations created by the bat when it comes in a contact with the ball. The extra padding on it is for not getting hurt. Even a player like Sachin Tendulkar can’t hit six sixes without wearing those gloves. The vibrations are intolerable. And Rani Mukherjee hits 6 sixes off the bowling of Bobby Bedi without wearing any gloves!!!!

Then we have a Aman Cup that is played between India and Pakistan to celebrate their Independence day and with a hope that cricket will unite these nations. These games are sponsored by two friends played by Anupam Kher and Dalip Tahil who were separated from each other in the 1947 partition. But cricket brought them back together. We see a scattered Indian side lose badly to the Pakistan team. So Anupam Kher plans to bring his son, played by Shahid Kapur, back to India. He is currently is living with his Mom in London. Shahid Kapur plays the character of a star player named ‘Rohan’ who plays for a county in England. With a hope that his son will help him win this Cup which India has lost on the last 8 occasions, he calls on his son.
