Daddy Cool Review {2.0/5} & Review Rating
EXPECTATIONS
There was a time when music coming from the house of filmmaker Indra Kumar was guaranteed to be chartbuster. Di', Beta, Raja, Ishq and Mann had hugely successful musical scores. Then came films like Aashiq, Rishtey and Pyaare Mohan that didn't really have much to cheer about. There were Masti and Dhamaal as well but frankly, the cracks started appearing as melody made way for item songs and the longevity factor went for a toss. Now comes Daddy Cool and due to the genre of the film, there aren't many expectations that one carries from the musical score here. Add to that the fact that there are just three tracks in the film and you wonder what really would be in store in Daddy Cool that has Raghav Sachar contributing with two songs and Farhad-Sajid with one.
MUSIC
In the times when plagiarism is making headlines in Bollywood, it is heartening to see due credit being given to the source. That's the case with 'Daddy Cool' which is based on Boney M's 'Daddy Cool'. While the opening is kept intact and the trademark sound of 'Daddy Cool' continues to make an impression even after so many years, Raghav Sachar (who composes as well as sings the song) does well in integrating his own Indian bits to the song. With flute and 'dhol' beats giving that spunk to Aditya Dhar written 'Daddy Cool', added vocals by Paroma P. Das Gupta's also bring in a cute element to the song that later also arrives in a 'remix version' which is done well and made for the dance floors.
Neha Baseen, the ex-Viva girl, had made a good impression with 'Kuch Khaas' [Fashion] that was released last year. She goes solo with 'Nasha Nasha' that has a seductive appeal to and a rhythm which goes well with the song's genre. No, the song isn't the next chartbuster in the making but should keep the proceedings well if picturised well for screen. With a mix of English and Hindi lyrics by Prashant Ingole, this Raghav Sachar composition (which later also appears in a 'remix version') does come close to 'Zara Zara Touch Me' [Race] in terms of setting but doesn't quite go the whole distance.
The duo of Farhad-Sajid has been contributing with lyrics, music as well as dialogues in Bollywood projects during last few years. For 'Life Life', Farhad and Sajid are responsible for composing as well as writing the song which is fast paced, high on energy and generally carries a pop feel to it. Crooned by Farhad himself, the song is peppy and should be a fine watch as per it's situational setting.
In addition to these three tracks, there are two bonus tracks from Indra Kumar's Dhaam'- Adnan Sami's 'Dekho Dekho Dil Ye Bole' and Amit Kumar's 'Miss India Martee Mujhpe'. These two numbers have managed to still play on at the music channels in the last couple of years and do not harm the peppy and rhythmic flow of Daddy Cool.
OVERALL
Daddy Cool is an okay album that is not designed as a musical in any case. There isn't really any number which would be played even 2-3 months down the line. Still, with the kind of setting that the film has, Daddy Cool was supposed to be high on energy and stay vibrant for it's short duration and in that aspect it does decently.
