Shruti Haasan describes her ‘rare personal milestone’ as she sings for Kamal Haasan in Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life

Shruti Haasan has described her latest song, ‘Vinveli Nayaga’, from Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film Thug Life, as a deeply personal moment in her career. Sung for her father Kamal Haasan and composed by AR Rahman, the track is part of the much-anticipated soundtrack of the action drama slated for release tomorrow June 5.

Speaking at the Thug Life audio launch, Shruti shared the significance of the opportunity. “I've been singing for a long time in my life, and people have liked my songs, but it's never really gotten a reaction like this. Even people who don't like me, pinged me. I don't know how many daughters can sing for their dad like this. I never take this for granted,” she said.

 

The track, unveiled live during the launch event, has already drawn strong reactions from fans and industry colleagues. Set to Rahman’s evocative composition and backed by Ratnam’s visual storytelling, ‘Vinveli Nayaga’ captures a layered emotion both musically and thematically, while also adding a personal touch to the film’s broader narrative.

 

Thug Life features Kamal Haasan in a leading role and marks a major collaboration between him, director Mani Ratnam, and music director AR Rahman—three names that helped define Tamil cinema across decades. The film also stars Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, and Jayam Ravi in key roles and is being produced by Madras Talkies and Raaj Kamal Films International.

 

Shruti’s involvement in the soundtrack has brought an added layer of sentiment to the film, as her contribution connects both professionally and personally with the film’s lead actor, her father. Thug Life, currently in the midst of intense production, is scheduled for a wide release in multiple languages.
