Is Sai Pallavi replacing Deepika Padukone in Kalki 2898 AD sequel?

With Deepika Padukone’s exit from Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD sequel, the spotlight is on the unknown replacement. For a while, the buzz was that Alia Bhatt was replacing Deepika as Sumathi, the pregnant nomad from the first part.

However, that turned out to be a false alarm. There is a strong rumour that Sai Pallavi is taking over the role from where Deepika left off.

 

And it isn’t entirely untrue. A source close to the development informed, “The Kalki team hasn’t decided as yet. It may be Sai Pallavi. On the other hand, they may scrap the role completely.”

 

Directed by Nag Ashwin, the Kalki 2898 AD and its sequel are based on the Hindu belief about the 10th avatar of Lord Vishnu called the Kalki Avatar and its appearance on the earth at the end of the Kaliyug. The first film showed Deepika’s character Sumathi carrying the Kalki Avatar in her womb.

 

The film also stars Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan in pivotal roles. Prabhas plays a bounty hunter compelled out of circumstances to protect Sumathi from evil forces hell bent in harming her and the child in her womb. Bachchan plays Ashwatthama, the character from Mahabharata, who has been cursed with immortality.
