Squid Game 2 gets more players as first script reading begins; Park Gyu Young, Jo Yu Ri, Won Ji An, Lee Jin Wook and more join season 2

Earlier this month, Squid Game 2 makers announced the new cast members of the new season at the Netflix Tudum 2023 event in Brazil. It was already confirmed that actors Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun will reprise their roles of Gi Hun and Front Man, respectively. It was also hinted that Gong Yoo may return as “the man in the suit with ddakji”. At the event, it was confirmed Wi Ha Jun will be returning to the show. However, four more actors were introduced in the video, including Im Siwan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, and Yang Dong Guen. Now, the streaming giant has introduced the new players joining season 2 as the first script reading began.

Amongst the new entrants include Park Gyu Young, Jo Yu Ri, and Won Ji An, former Big Bang member T.O.P, Lee Jin Wook, David Lee, Noh Jae Won, and Kang Ae Shim. Season 2 will begin filming in the second half of the year. The script reading and new cast members' photos were shared on social media on June 29, 2023.

 

 

 

 

In June 2022, Netflix confirmed that the Korean drama is coming back for a second season. In an official statement, Hwang Dong Hyuk, the director, writer, and executive producer of Squid Game, said, “It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director, and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout-out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show. And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You'll also be introduced to Young-hee's boyfriend, Cheol Su. Join us once more for a whole new round.”

 

Back in October 2021, Netflix confirmed Squid Game had become the biggest launch in the streaming giant’s history by drawing 111 million viewers in its first month on the platform. The Korean series surpassed the previous mark set by Bridgerton, through the first 28 days, which was seen by 82 million households after its debut. In November 2021, Netflix confirmed that Squid Game became the most-watched show or film ever, with 1.65 billion hours of viewership in 28 days.
