GOT7’s Jinyoung and EXO’s Kai to enlist in military in South Korea on May 8 and May 11

Two popular South Korean musicians have announced their mandatory military system is happening next week! Popular singer-actor Jinyoung of the K-pop group GOT7 and EXO’s Kai are enlisting in the military on May 8 and May 11, respectively. The announcements for both of them were made by their respective agencies.

Following his handwritten letter in April, Jinyoung’s agency BH Entertainment announced, “Actor Park Jinyoung will fulfill his duty to his country and enlist into basic military training on May 8th (Mon). There will be no separate official event and we ask for your understanding, as he will be arriving in private for the safety and in consideration of the other families and their loved ones. We kindly ask that fans of Jinyoung refrain from visiting the site as this is a private occasion for many families.  As always, thank you very much for your support as Jinyoung fulfills his duties in the military and returns happy and in good health.”

 

Kai’s agency SM Entertainment on Wednesday made the official announcement regarding his enlistment. This came as a surprise to the fans who were waiting for the group’s comeback. But, it seems like Kai will miss out on the comeback though he has completed the work on it. As reported by Soompi, the statement read, “We have come to relay sudden news to fans regarding Kai’s military service. Kai was preparing for EXO’s comeback scheduled for this year, but due to a recent change in regulations of the Military Manpower Administration, he is set to enter the army recruit training center on May 11 where he will receive basic military training, and he will then serve as a public service worker.”

 

“In respect of Kai’s intention to enlist quietly, his enlistment location and time will not be revealed, and there will be no special event on the day of, so we ask for the understanding of fans. Regarding the plans for EXO’s album, we will inform you once the details are sorted out,” the statement concluded.

 

On the work front, GOT7’s Jinyoung released his solo album Chapter 0: WITH in January 2023. He was last seen in the Christmas Carol movie for which he won Best New Actor at Baeksang Arts and Culture Awards 2023.

 

On the other hand, Kai made his solo comeback in March 2023 with ‘Rover’.
