Drake suspected to have connections in XXXTentacion’s murder; asked to appear for deposition in trial
Drake has been ordered to sit for a deposition or appear in court in the ongoing XXXTentacion murder trial. The defense attorney Mauricio Padilla believes the that Drake is connected to XXXTentacion’s death due to a feud between them.
In December 2022, the defense team for Dedrick Williams—one of the three defendants accused of killing XXXTentacion—named a number of musicians as potential witnesses, including Drake, Tekashi 6ix9ine, Offset, and late Migos rapper Takeoff.
According to a court document by Billboard, Drake failed to appear for deposition on January 27 and is now being ordered to appear for a deposition on February 24 via Zoom video. If he fails to do so, he may be held in contempt. Padilla attempted to subpoena Drake last month and claims that the rapper was properly served but failed to show up, per Rolling Stone.
“If deponent Aubrey Drake Graham does not appear to deposition he must appear before this court on Monday Feb. 27, 2023 at 10 a.m. EST at so the court can determine why he should not be held in contempt,” the order reads. According to Padilla’s opening arguments in court on Tuesday, Drake and XXXTentacion’s feud began when the latter believed the former had ripped off his track ‘Look At Me!’
A year later, XXXTentacion – whose real name was Jahseh Onfrey – posted a story on his Instagram writing, “If anyone tries to kill me it was @champagnepapi,” and tagged Drake’s handle. The post was then deleted and XXXtentacion later claimed his account was hacked. Four months later, he was found murdered in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
