Ravi Kishan backs Dhurandhar :"Calling it a propaganda film is very wrong!", urges audiences to support it

Actor and Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan has come out strongly in support of Aditya Dhar’s blockbuster Dhurandhar The Revenge, dismissing criticism that labels the film as propaganda.

The film, which recently entered the ₹1000 crore club on its third Sunday—making it one of the fastest Indian films to achieve the milestone after Pushpa 2—continues to dominate the box office. However, a section of viewers has raised concerns over its narrative, calling it propaganda, a claim Ravi Kishan firmly rejects.

 

Speaking during his visit to Lucknow, the actor-politician expressed disappointment over the criticism and emphasized the need to support such films. He stated, “Calling it a propaganda film is very wrong! Actors from the South supported it openly, everyone should do that. A new trend has started of calling films propaganda – ek naya kabootar pakad liye hain log!”

 

Ravi Kishan also highlighted the film’s impact on the struggling film industry, crediting it with drawing audiences back to theatres. He described the project as a significant boost, not just for mainstream cinema but also for regional industries like Bhojpuri cinema, which he noted has been facing severe challenges.

 

Drawing a comparison to the iconic Sholay, he added, “The writer picks topics from real news and incidents, and the team cinematically presents them on the screen. One should be happy that people have started going to the theatre. Bahut haalat kharab thi industry ki, Bhojpuri industry has almost shut down! This has come as a blessing for the industry, and lakhs of people earn their livelihood through cinema.”

 

Addressing the broader role of cinema, Ravi Kishan further remarked, “It’s important that cinema presents on screen what has and is happening in society. In fact, we need to correct our history as well by way of research – those pages that were torn away from our history! That truth needs to be brought in front of people.”

 

As Dhurandhar The Revenge continues its remarkable theatrical run, the debate around its themes persists. However, voices like Ravi Kishan’s underline a growing sentiment within the industry—one that champions cinematic storytelling while urging audiences to view such films with an open mind.
