Rani Mukerji recalls people pulling her down for her voice; says no need to pay heed to criticism with an agenda

With films like No One Killed Jessica, the Mardaani series, and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, actress Rani Mukerji has carved a niche for herself when it comes to women-centric films. The actress is once again back in her essence as she is headlining Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway, in which she is playing a role of a mother, who fought for her children. Ahead of the release of her film and on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2023, Rani opened up about various aspects of her life including how she deals with people who try to pull her down for her voice.

For the unversed, in the initial years of her career people had doubts about her voice. The makers of her films often asked her to let a voice artist dub her voice. However, Rani kept her chin up and decided to dub her dialogues herself. Recalling that time during an interview with Pinkvilla, she said, “If I really believed what people thought about my voice, then my voice would not have been loved by millions of people.”

 

The Hichki actress further added, “If I hadn’t put my foot down and dubbed my own films…people today recognise me by my voice. Not many people thought that my voice could become so special.” She went on to state that she has lived life on her terms as she “believes in creating her own belief and sticking to it.” The actress said, "If I start looking at that, I will have to start living for other people rather than myself.”

 

The Baabul actress explained, “If there is a criticism which can be constructive, I will take that. But if there is criticism only because there is an agenda behind it, you can understand it and you don’t need to pay heed to it.” She concluded by saying that things are changing for the better” for women in the entertainment industry.

 

Coming back to her upcoming film, Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway, it is slated to release on March 17.
