Raftaar SLAMS Canadian rapper Tommy Genesis for “Mocking” Hindu deity in ‘True Blue’ song, urges fans to report the music video

Indian rapper Raftaar has called out Canadian rapper Tommy Genesis for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through her latest music video, ‘True Blue’. The controversy erupted after visuals from the video surfaced online, featuring Tommy dressed as the Hindu goddess Maa Kali while performing explicit dance moves.

Taking to social media on Sunday, Raftaar did not mince words as he expressed his outrage over the representation, terming it as a “mockery of my religion.” The rapper urged his followers and fans to report the video across platforms, stating that such depictions were disrespectful and unacceptable. He stated, "This is a mockery of my religion. This shouldn’t exist," as the reason for flagging the video.

The video in question shows her wearing a costume resembling that of Maa Kali — complete with symbolic accessories — while dancing provocatively. The clip has gone viral across social platforms, drawing widespread criticism for its perceived insensitivity towards Hindu culture and beliefs.

The outrage isn't limited to India. Several social media users across the globe, especially from the South Asian diaspora, condemned the video for "appropriating" Hindu iconography in a disrespectful manner. Many pointed out the hypocrisy of cultural appropriation under the guise of artistic freedom.
