Pratik Gandhi advocates ‘context over control’ in parenting at Netflix panel on screen time

At a time when concerns around children’s screen exposure continue to grow, actor Pratik Gandhi shared a grounded and practical approach to digital parenting, advocating for engagement over restriction. Speaking at a curated panel on ‘Raising Screen Smart Families’ hosted by Netflix in collaboration with Kidsstoppress, the actor highlighted the importance of guiding children through content rather than limiting access altogether.

Drawing from his own experience as a father, Gandhi revealed that his 12-year-old daughter often checks with him before watching content, allowing him to introduce what he describes as “context over control.” “If I sit with you, you can watch because I can set a context for you to understand,” he said, stressing the role of parental involvement in shaping how children interpret what they see.

 

He also underlined the power of storytelling as a parenting tool, noting that narratives can open up conversations without sounding instructional. “Stories are the strongest tool, without sounding preachy,” Gandhi added. Balancing his career with fatherhood, the actor admitted that parenting has influenced how he views his work. While he approaches characters without judgment as an actor, he acknowledged being more mindful as a parent. “It’s a constant negotiation, as a father, I do think about how my daughter and her friends will process it,” he said.

 

The panel brought together experts including Mahima Kaul and Tanya Bami from Netflix, child psychologist Dr. Shwetambara Sabharwal, and was moderated by Mansi Zaveri. The discussion focused on helping families navigate screen use in a more mindful and informed way, moving beyond fear-driven conversations to practical solutions.

 

With evolving digital habits becoming a reality for most households, Gandhi’s perspective adds to the growing conversation around raising screen-aware children through participation, dialogue, and trust.
