Govinda issues clarification after wife Sunita Ahuja calls family priest a ‘fraud’

Actor Govinda has stepped forward to issue a public clarification regarding his family priest after his wife, Sunita Ahuja, recently accused the latter of being a fraud during her appearance on the Paras Chhabra Podcast. The controversy erupted amid growing speculation surrounding Govinda and Sunita’s alleged marital troubles, with reports of a possible separation making rounds online.

During the podcast, Sunita Ahuja had launched a strong critique against Pandit Mukesh Shukla, calling him “fake” and claiming that he frequently suggested new rituals and charged hefty sums for them. She had said that the priest “keeps suggesting new rituals and pujas and keeps charging money for them,” adding that he would often demand lakhs of rupees for each ritual. Sunita reportedly remarked that she told him many times to perform his own prayers because his rituals “won’t help Govinda.”

 

Continuing her fiery statement, Sunita had said that it was better to pray on one’s own rather than rely on priests for spiritual well-being. She added that she preferred to make her own donations instead of handing over money for rituals that, in her words, “don’t help anyone.” She even went on to label such priests as “chor log” (thieves).

 

Further taking a dig at people surrounding her husband, Sunita alleged that Govinda was “surrounded by fools who pretend to be writers and advisers” and that many of them disliked her because she “tells the truth.” She claimed that these “chamchas” (bootlickers) were responsible for creating misunderstandings between her and the actor.

 

In response to her remarks, Govinda took to social media to defend their long-time family priest, Pandit Mukesh Shukla. In a detailed statement, the actor said he wanted to clarify that Pandit Shukla was a “very well-known and capable priest” who deeply understood the Vedas and astrology. Govinda expressed regret over his wife’s comments, saying he was “ashamed” and that he “condemns” them.

 

The actor further described the priest as “one of the simplest men on earth,” recalling how he had supported him during difficult times. Govinda also acknowledged the priest’s political connections, noting that they had often helped make his life easier. He ended his note by humbly requesting the priest to “keep his blessings” with the family.

 

While Govinda’s clarification aims to put the controversy to rest, the incident has once again drawn attention to the actor’s reportedly strained marriage, which has been a subject of speculation for months.
