EXCLUSIVE: Nikita Dutta reveals Gold didn’t work out for her, later Kabir Singh changed everything; recalls how Sandeep Reddy Vanga spotted her — and it has a Zoya Akhtar connection!

Actress Nikita Dutta, who recently marked 10 years in the industry, reflected on her turning points and the unexpected path that has shaped her film journey. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the actress spoke about the period between Gold (2018) and Kabir Singh (2019), calling it a mix of uncertainty, patience, and a little bit of luck.

“When I signed Gold, I thought things would be easier for me,” she said, recalling her mindset before the film’s release. “I had actually signed Gold before my third TV show Haasil, which was made by Siddharth Malhotra, who is a film director, and starred Zayed Khan, a film actor. So, I knew it was a short TV show. I entered with the thought that I have Gold, which I was shooting for simultaneously, and it’s going to be released in 2018. Haasil was temporary — it was going to pay all my bills until Gold released. Then Gold came out, and it didn’t really give me the result I expected it would.”

 

Despite the setback, Dutta shared that things took a positive turn soon after. “By God’s grace, as I said, you never know when you get lucky — Kabir Singh happened, and that just changed things completely.”

 

Recounting her first meeting with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, she said, “The first day I met him for Kabir Singh, he literally told me, ‘This is your part. Are you okay with it?’ I said yes. Whatever I shot for Kabir Singh is there in the film and the song. Nothing more was promised to me, and I really respect that kind of transparency.”

 

Interestingly, Dutta revealed that her role in Kabir Singh stemmed from a cameo appearance in Lust Stories. “He actually spotted me in Lust Stories, where I did a cameo. I had only done that cameo because I was shooting for Gold. I’m a huge fan of Zoya Akhtar, so I think with the greed of just being on a Zoya Akhtar set, I said yes to it,” she smiled.
