EXCLUSIVE: Has Raaj Shaandilyaa quit films after joining News India 24x7? Dream Girl director CLARIFIES, "100% I'll continue to make films"

The industry, trade and media received a surprise earlier in the day that Raaj Shaandilyaa, popular writer and director of Rs. 100 crore grossers like Dream Girl (2019) and Dream Girl 2 (2023), has joined News India 24x7 as Vice Chairman. Many wondered if Raaj has quit films now that he has joined a news channel. Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to him about it and a lot more.

When asked how he landed up in News India 24x7, Raaj Shaandilyaa said, “I have been trying to do something in the world of media for a long time. I was wondering if I should try somewhere and was waiting for an offer. I was also looking for a channel which can allow me to make my own team. The management of News India 24x7 gave me the chance that I was looking for. They told me, ‘Aap filmon ko waqt de hi rahe ho. Thoda time yahan bhi de dijiye’. I liked their offer and I accepted it.”

 

He added, “There are certain things I want to do which is only possible by working in a news channel. That’s why I took the plunge. The channel has given me a certain responsibility and let’s see how I contribute. I’d like to bring something new and creative to the table. I also felt that if I do this along with films, there would be more excitement in life. Nayi nayi cheezein karte rehna chahiye life mein. I am anyway doing films. And when I got this offer, I told myself, ‘Let’s do it’.”

 

Most news channels are based in Delhi-NCR. Will Raaj Shaandilyaa shift base? He replied, “The channel is based in Delhi, but I’ll operate from Mumbai. My team would also be based in Mumbai.”

 

Before signing off, Raaj Shaandilyaa made it clear that he has not retired from making films. He clarified, “100% I’ll continue to make films. Writing, narration, production – all that would also happen parallely.”
