After encouraging advance booking of Border 2, trade hails Sunny Deol: "His intensity, fiery dialogues CHARGES the audience…he's NOT an actor who would go for corporate booking or manipulate collections. He has NEVER done that"

Sunny Deol’s track record was affected prior to 2023, but all changed with the blockbuster success of Gadar 2 (2023). His next release was Jaat (2025). It underperformed but scored in the mass areas, thus proving that Gadar 2 success was not a fluke. Now, his next, Border 2, is all set to release this Friday and as per trade, it’ll open with a bang. The experts confirmed that Sunny Deol is a star and is here to stay.

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “When Sunny Deol screams, it looks believable. Be it the ‘Dhai kilo ka haath’ moment in Damini (1993), the hand pump scene in Gadar (2001) or ‘Awaaz kahan tak jaani chahiye?’ dialogue in Border 2, you believe it as his tone is ferocious and has a larger-than-life personality. Had it been any other actor, a section of people might have said, ‘He doesn’t seem apt for such scenes’. But with Sunny Deol, it looks believable. There are no fingers pointing at him.”

 

Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, opined, “I am a huge Sunny Deol fan. The way he essays these kinds of characters, in which he’s fighting for the nation, it connects quite well. His intensity on screen is such that it charges the audience. The ‘Awaaz kahan tak jaani chahiye?’ dialogue, for example, has the potential to create a frenzy. That’s the connect he creates with the moviegoers. He’s easily one of the biggest stars we have today.”

 

Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal stated, “He’s very big. After almost 25 years, he made a comeback with Gadar 2 and how. Jaat also worked. Border 2 also seems promising. Border 2 is all set to open at Rs. 30 crores and that’s huge. There are films that don’t even have a lifetime of Rs. 30 crores! Hence, it’s not a small number in today’s times, that too in terms of opening.”

 

He also remarked, “Sunny Deol is not an actor who would go for corporate booking or manipulate collections. He has never done that.”

 

However, Atul Mohan said, “It depends on what kind of film he’s riding on. Gadar 2 had the advantage of the nostalgia factor, and hence, it managed to collect Rs. 500 crores plus. However, Jaat wound up below Rs. 85 crores. So, it depends on how you are presenting Sunny Deol.”
