18 Years of Jannat EXCLUSIVE: When Emraan Hashmi had to hide in a BATHROOM in a Kolkata mall amid massive fan frenzy
May 16 marks 18 years of Jannat (2008), a film that redefined romance with Emraan Hashmi and Sonal Chauhan in the lead. The film, directed by Kunal Deshmukh, went on to create a cult following for its gripping, emotionally charged storyline, written by Vishesh Bhatt and Kunal Deshmukh.
Produced by Mukesh Bhatt with Vishesh Bhatt as creative producer, the film struck gold at the box office while creating a massive buzz among audiences. Emraan Hashmi’s effortless charm worked like magic, with fans, especially young women, dreaming of a partner like him.
Speaking about Jannat, Emraan Hashmi shared, "I remember it was 16th May 2008, during the inaugural IPL season. We had gone to a mall in Kolkata for a meet-and-greet. What started as a simple interaction quickly turned into a near stampede. The situation got so intense that the mall owner had to step in and I was even moved into a bathroom to manage the crowd, with police called in to ensure everyone’s safety. I couldn’t believe people were just shouting my name, wanting to catch a glimpse. Jannat definitely became a huge turning point in my career.”
Jannat told the story of Arjun Dixit, a street-smart, ambitious young man whose talent for predicting cricket match outcomes pulls him into the risky world of betting, until love upends everything.
Not just the story, even the music album composed by Pritam was ranked among the year’s top soundtracks. Songs like 'Zara Si', 'Judaai', 'Haan Tu Hai', and 'Jannat Jahan' became instant chartbusters and continue to remain fan favourites even today.
With Awarapan 2 among the most anticipated films of 2026, Vishesh Bhatt and Emraan Hashmi are set to bring back intense love, raw emotion and soulful storytelling to the big screen on August 14, 2026.
