Ali Fazal has expressed gratitude for the overwhelming love that Mirzapur and his character Guddu Pandit have received over the years. As the series earns the distinction of being voted the most-watched show across streaming platforms over the last decade, spanning its first three seasons, the actor reflected on the emotional significance of playing a character that has become a household name.
For Ali, the popularity of Guddu Pandit goes beyond professional recognition. The character’s journey, intensity and transformation have resonated with audiences, making him one of the most recognisable figures from the crime drama. Reflecting on the milestone, the actor spoke about how the response to the series has exceeded expectations and how audiences have made Guddu Bhaiya a part of their lives.
Speaking about the recognition and what it means to him, Ali Fazal said, “It's honestly quite overwhelming and emotional to see the kind of love Mirzapur continues to receive. When we started this journey, we knew we were creating something special, but none of us could have predicted the scale at which the show and its characters would connect with people. Guddu Pandit has given me so much as an actor, and the fact that audiences have welcomed him into their homes and made Guddu Bhaiya a household name is something I will always cherish. There are moments when you pause and realise that a character you once played has become a part of people's lives, their conversations and their memories. That feeling is difficult to put into words.”
The actor also acknowledged the significance of the latest chapter in the franchise, Mirzapur: The Movie, which released this year and has delivered a notable box-office performance. According to Ali, the film’s response has further strengthened his emotional connection with the franchise and the audiences who have followed its journey across seasons.
Continuing, he said, “To now see Mirzapur receive this recognition, and to have Mirzapur: The Movie take that love forward with such an incredible response at the box office, makes the journey even more special. I am deeply grateful to the audiences, the entire team, and everyone who has stood by this world through every season. Guddu Pandit will always hold a very special place in my heart.”
Since its first season, Mirzapur has built a dedicated following, with its characters and dialogues becoming part of popular culture. Guddu Pandit’s evolution across the series has been central to its appeal, with Ali’s portrayal capturing the character’s shifting ambitions, vulnerabilities and intensity.
For the actor, the recognition serves as a reminder of the lasting connection that storytelling can create between performers and viewers. With the series continuing to enjoy widespread popularity and Mirzapur: The Movie extending the franchise’s reach, Guddu Pandit remains a defining role in Ali Fazal’s career.
