K-pop girl group ILLIT have released their fifth mini album, 'BREAK EVEN,' worldwide. The four-track EP explores the point in a relationship where one side feels they have given more than they received, with the group taking a more assertive approach to mixed signals and unreciprocated feelings.

The album is led by the electro-pop track 'You’re Under Arrest,' which turns the frustration of unclear intentions into a playful accusation. The song centres on the idea of calling out someone whose kindness and mixed signals have created confusion in a relationship.
Ahead of its release, 'BREAK EVEN' crossed 500,000 pre-saves on Spotify and topped the platform’s global Countdown chart. A live performance video of 'You’re Under Arrest,' which was first performed at ILLIT’s encore concerts in South Korea on October 17 and 18, also appeared on YouTube’s Daily Top Music Videos charts in 13 countries and regions, including the US, Japan and the UK.
ILLIT take a playful approach to ‘You’re Under Arrest’
“You’re Under Arrest” uses the language of crime and punishment to portray a relationship that was never equally invested. The track features an electro-pop arrangement with a recurring whistle motif, while its performance incorporates chase-inspired choreography and hand gestures based on the song’s arrest theme.
The music video extends the concept, with the members playing secret agents who track down a person who has left them with unresolved feelings. The members appear in different disguises as they follow their target, with the video mixing detective imagery with ILLIT’s playful visual style.
Actor Song Kang makes a special appearance in the music video as a key figure in the storyline. The members also switch between special-agent outfits and detective-inspired looks during the video.
'BREAK EVEN' follows a four-track emotional arc
The four songs on 'BREAK EVEN' are connected by a broader story about moving on from an uncertain relationship.
The opening track, “Super in Love”, combines indie dance elements with synth bass and vocoder harmonies as the narrator begins to question whether the feelings in the relationship were mutual. “More” shifts the mood towards frustration, using a speed garage sound to represent the change from self-doubt to confrontation.
That emotional progression leads into 'You’re Under Arrest,' where the group turns the unresolved situation into a firm verdict. The final track, 'Pop,' takes a more upbeat approach, using baile funk influences to suggest moving beyond the disappointment and finding interest in someone new.
With 'BREAK EVEN,' ILLIT continue to build on the “ILLIT-core” style associated with their music while exploring relationships through a mix of humour, youthful emotions and more direct storytelling.
