Australian model and designer Sahara Ray, who made headlines after being photographed with Justin Bieber in Hawaii in 2016, has died at the age of 34. According to reports, Ray died following a suspected fentanyl overdose. Her family has not officially confirmed the cause of her death.
As reported by The Mirror, Ray was hospitalised in Los Angeles on October 16 and placed on life support. A source told the publication that her family decided to withdraw life support on October 18. She reportedly died surrounded by her loved ones.
Ray’s mother, Gretchen Bach, paid tribute to her daughter while speaking to the Daily Mail. She said, “Sahara was incredibly passionate and kind young woman who loved her family, fashion, her daughter Snow, and surfing. We’re feeling the love that is pouring in from her cherished friends, fans and the many communities that she was part of around the world."
Ray’s younger sister, Ruby, also shared an emotional tribute on October 20, remembering her as a person who brought joy to those around her. She wrote, “My beautiful big sister, Sahara. The most vivacious, intelligent, hilarious, kind, empathetic and breathtakingly beautiful soul. Sahara has moved from this life into another, and I am left trying to comprehend how someone so full of life can no longer be here to live it."
Ray became a mother for the first time in January 2026, welcoming a daughter named Snow. Her last known Instagram post, shared on July 19, featured pictures of her daughter with the caption, “My whole heart, baby Snow." She had introduced the baby to her followers in April.
In 2024, Ray revealed that she had been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological condition that can cause muscle weakness and paralysis. She said the condition developed after a road accident involving a driver who was allegedly speeding under the influence of alcohol. The illness left her partially paralysed and unable to walk.
Ray had also spoken about checking into a treatment centre in Malibu in 2021 for mental health and addiction support. She launched her swimwear label, Sahara Ray Swim, in 2014 and went on to work as a model and social media personality.
She came into the public eye in 2016 after being photographed with Bieber during his Hawaii trip. The pictures sparked dating rumours, although neither publicly confirmed a relationship.
