Rakul Preet Singh will portray Surpanakha in the upcoming film Ramayana, and her performance has received praise from several members of the film’s team. At a recent event, filmmaker Karan Johar, actors Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, actor Yash and filmmaker Dil Raju spoke about the significance of the character and expressed their excitement about Rakul’s role in the epic.
Karan Johar highlighted the importance of the character, saying, “Rakul is playing most important and crucial character.”
Sai Pallavi, who has previously worked with Rakul, spoke about their experience of sharing screen space again in different roles. She said, “Dear Rakul. Though we've already done a film together, I think this is even more special because we play such different, vibrant characters and I think the energy that we had was so strange in the set. So I had a great time with Rakul and she's going to kill it. You will actually see how perfect Surpanakha can be played.”
Ranbir Kapoor also encouraged audiences to look forward to Rakul’s performance, saying that it had made an impression on him after watching the film. He said, “I know all of you guys love Rakul, but you haven't seen Rakul till you have not seen her performance in this film. I have seen this film many times. She is going to surprise you. It is just amazing. So please watch out for her portrayal on this film.”
Dil Raju highlights Surpanakha’s importance in Ramayana
Filmmaker Dil Raju spoke about Surpanakha’s role in the epic and welcomed Rakul to Hyderabad. He said, “Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Ravana — these are the main characters we remember when we think of the Ramayana. Alongside them is Surpanakha, played by our very own Rakul, who has already delivered wonderful performances in several Telugu films and is now portraying Shurpanakha in the Ramayana. Rakul ji, welcome to Hyderabad!
“So, in this film, you’re playing the role of Surpanakha. For everyone familiar with the Ramayana, Surpanakha is a character whose actions significantly change the course of the entire story. Rakul ji, you’re playing such a powerful character.”

He said, “And Rakul, you are more a Telugu ammai..So, I don't know what I should say... people will enjoy. They must have missed you, and will see you in full glory.”
