Actor Jitin Gulati has joined the cast of Mahakali, the upcoming mythological action-drama from the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU). The actor will be seen in a pivotal role in the film, which also stars Akshaye Khanna, Rohit Saraf and Bhoomi Shetty. The casting update comes after the makers unveiled Akshaye Khanna's first look as demon Guru Shukracharya, giving audiences a glimpse into the film's mythological world.
Jitin Gulati on joining Mahakali
Speaking about how he landed the project, Jitin said that his association with Mahakali came through a series of fortunate connections. "As it is said, when you really want something, the universe conspires to give it to you. That's what happened to me with Mahakali," the actor said.
Jitin revealed that he had been keen to collaborate with filmmaker Prasanth Varma after watching Hanu-Man. He eventually got an opportunity to meet Varma and director Puja Kolluru after people he had previously worked with recommended him for the project. "I was really chasing Prasanth Varma after watching Hanu-Man. I really wanted to work with him," Jitin said, adding that people from a Telugu film he was working on helped connect him with the Mahakali team.
He further expressed gratitude towards those who introduced his work to Varma and Kolluru and helped facilitate his meeting with the filmmakers.
Actor praises Puja Kolluru's vision
Jitin began shooting for Mahakali last year and said the film is now nearing completion. He also spoke about what attracted him to his character and the filmmaker's approach to the material. "What really got me excited for the role was the director, Puja's vision for it. She spoke so passionately about its possibilities and the novelty with which she wanted to present this character," he said.
Describing the role as demanding, Jitin credited the film's various departments for supporting him through the process. He also expressed confidence in the project and its approach to the genre. "I am sure this film will be a benchmark in this genre. Prasanth, Puja and PVCU will be a force to reckon with when it comes to this genre," the actor added.
Mahakali expands the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe
Mahakali is part of filmmaker Prasanth Varma's Cinematic Universe, which began with Hanu-Man. Puja Kolluru is directing the upcoming project, which is expected to release next year.
The film brings together a cast led by Akshaye Khanna, with Rohit Saraf, Bhoomi Shetty and now Jitin Gulati in key roles. The makers have yet to announce the film's exact release date or more details about the characters.
