Sanjay Dutt has always been a controversial figure thanks to his shocking and dramatic developments which have taken place in his life at regular intervals. In a way, these episodes had become a distant memory for people and media at large. But now all of these have been revived thanks to the release of his biopic Sanju. Directed by the blockbuster director Rajkumar Hirani, it features Ranbir Kapoor essaying the role of Sanjay Dutt. The film has been particularly loved for not white-washing the image of the actor and presenting his dark and negative side. At the same time, questions are raised over why certain aspects were not shown, particularly with regards to his Arms Act case which led to his arrest. The case went on for a long time and the saga which started in 1993 ended only in 2016 when Sanjay Dutt came out of the jail as a free man.
A few weeks prior to the release of Sanju, moviegoers and trade were amused and impressed with an old picture that started doing the rounds. It features Saif Ali Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar holding up a poster with Sanjay Dutt’s picture and the text on it reads ‘Sanju We’re with u’. Ajay Devgn can also be seen in this snap. It made it clear that despite the negative publicity against the actor and allegations of being a terrorist, the support for him from the film industry was immense. This picture had come out somewhere when the actor was first arrested in 1993.
And now Bollywood Hungama has stumbled upon another rare find that would amaze you as to how Bollywood went to great lengths to show its support to Sanjay Dutt then. The said discovery is a song with a sympathetic song tone by Abhijeet Bhattacharya. The initial lines of the song are ‘Na dekho mujhe, aisi nazar se, waqt ka maara hoon main, ek bechaara hoon main’. The visuals show Sanjay Dutt suffering on account of the case and being hurled in and out of the prison. At one point, late producer and father of Karan Johar, Yash Johar, can be seen standing rock solid with Baba. Shatrughan Sinha is also seen briefly towards the end of the track. Not much information is available as to who directed and produced this song. Old-timers recall that this track used to be played on Zee TV then several times.
