“I would love to create classic films as an actor” – Kalpana Pandit

What is Tum Ho Yaara all about?
Tum Ho Yaara is a unique film, a great confectionary of romance, music, action and an awesome story line. It's the first of its kind since it was majorly filmed in the United States of America and partly filmed in lovely locales in India as well. It's a very contemporary story because it details the travails of today's generation who are educated and have the opportunity to traverse the globe for their profession and sometimes it's not always a smooth story! There are twists and turns that life takes which creates intrigue and shock in the film!

Tell something about Maya your character in the film.
My character Maya is aptly named because she is a modern woman who suddenly enters the life of the male protagonist creating a strong impact in his life. I liked this character because I can identify with the smart Indian woman of today who has to don multiple hats of career and personal life and balance both. Maya is strong, glamorous and integral to the story. Also, another reason is that I love Bollywood dance. It requires high energy; it is like a fantasy and a complete experience that people across the world adore. So, when I got to know that I would get to do a great dance number 'Gham Ho Ya Khushi' in the film I jumped at it!

How's the suspense and thrill of Tum Ho Yaara?
Yes, there are multiple twists and turns which will hopefully keep audiences glued to their seats. Like I mentioned, it's an urban contemporary film and I'm sure the youth will identify with the film. There are unique elements which are introduced by the director duo Natty Kumar - Dr Jay at every turn! There are some great action scenes as well as beautiful music composed by Faizan Hussain - Agnel Roman.

This movie is action oriented one. Do you personally enjoy action movies and what do you have to say about the action in the film?
I love authentic action films! It's definitely a thrilling experience to watch on celluloid when larger than life characters engage in precise action. You will see that the action in Tum Ho Yaara. I personally don't have any action scenes in the film though. I absolutely admire all the great action stars only because it inspires people to work hard, to physically push their limits of fitness to the highest level. I hope to do an action film myself someday because I think it requires incredible skill, focus & dedication to hone that craft and as an actress it would add yet another feather to my cap.

How would you describe this film in one sentence?
Tum Ho Yaara is the freshest movie experience of today! Unique, engrossing and intelligent!

This is your second Bollywood film as producer after Janleva 555.
Well actually, Janleva 555 was my first solo production Bollywood movie under my House of Pandit banner and Tum Ho Yaara is a co-production of House of Pandit with Dreams on Frames. It has been the most chaotic yet creatively rewarding journey of my life so far! I never realized how creating a beautiful story and making it come alive on the silver screen could feel so magical and wonderful! Especially when the audience everywhere appreciate my work and performance, it's an incredible validation for all the tons of hard work that we as a team put in. So, I must thank all my audience across the world for the love and support and also a huge huge thank you to the world renowned portal bollywoodhungama.com for showcasing my films so beautifully! I was immensely proud when I was welcomed with open arms by Bollywood Hungama for my first film Janleva 555 and the pride continues with Tum Ho Yaara and onward.

Any special moments attached with the film? What made you say 'yes' to this film?
Yes, there are tons of special moments that form my tapestry of memories with Tum Ho Yaara. The first one being that I was co-producing a Bollywood film to be shot in USA! That was a proud moment for me. Starting from the conception of the story with multiple conference calls/ narrations with the co-producers in California, this is a journey that I will never forget!

Also, my role of Maya was glamorous and a strong woman of today and I loved portraying her. Driving to all the amazing locations for filming with the team was a big high as well! My co stars Ganesh, Shobana, Sreedharan, Narayan and all the others were such great fun to work with! My wardrobe stylist Nithya Ranganathan has become one of my closest friends today and has given me a fresh look in the film. The makeup team of Rose Hill Academy of Cosmetic Arts who have done several Hollywood films created a completely different look for me. Tommy Bombon the still photographer was awesome. Must thank Chris Eldridge DOP in USA and CJ Rajkumar Sir DOP in India who have captured the film so well. Sandeep Malani, who was the director of two of my home productions Jo Jo Laali and Janleva 555 has graciously taken on the responsibility of creative administrator for release. Finally my directors Natty Kumar & Dr Jay who have worked so hard in making a film from their heart and an intriguing interesting story of today. Also, I am grateful to our distributors Manoj Nandwana of Jai Viratra Entertainment who are working with us from Mumbai.

What is the USP of the movie?
USP of Tum Ho Yaara... It's special because it spans over two continents USA and India and the emotions attached with them! I believe that each member of the audience will relate to it differently because there are so many intriguing twists and turns

How do you see a career in Bollywood growing?
I once again thank Bollywood Hungama from the bottom of my heart for your amazing support. I love Bollywood with all my heart and hope that our beautiful film culture spreads far and wide. As it is, I see that everyday Bollywood films are making huge strides in the box office worldwide. I would want the audience to enjoy my films so that I may continue the magical adventure of Bollywood.

As far as my own banner House of Pandit goes, I would love to create classic films as an actor/ producer with timeless stories that multiple generations can watch. My goal is also to spread awareness on Social/ Medical issues with each film so that we are able to touch every corner of the globe with important messages but garbed in an entertaining commercial story line.
