The Rajkumar Hirani directed film Sanju finally released yesterday after much hype and promotions. Starring Ranbir Kapoor in the title role Sanju that is based on the life of actor Sanjay Dutt opened across 4000 screens in the domestic market to a thunderous response from the audience. If that wasn’t all, critics too have taken a liking to the film with positive feedback bolstering the film’s box office collections. After opening on a high note with collections of Rs. 34.75 cr on Day 1, the business of Sanju saw good growth on Day 2.
Collecting Rs. 38.60 cr on its second day Sanju has managed to surpass the business of the recently released Salman Khan starrer Race 3 that had collected Rs. 37 cr on its second day to become the Highest Second Day grosser in Bollywood. Though the second day collections of Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion stand at Rs. 40.5 cr, since the film was dubbed in Hindi it has not been considered in this list. On the other hand, besides Race 3, the business of Sanju on day 2 has been considerably better than other releases like Sultan that collected Rs. 36.62 cr, Bajrangi Bhaijaan that collected Rs. 36.6 cr, Tiger Zinda Hai that had collected Rs. 35.30 cr and Dangal that had collected Rs. 34.82 cr.
As of now, with reports stating that Sanju continues to dominate the theatres both in metros and mass sectors, expectations are that the film will likely cross even the Rs. 110 cr mark by the end of its opening weekend.
