This Friday’s major release is Rani Mukherji’s Hichki. Typically, one would expect an Aditya Chopra produced film to take a good opening at the Box Office. However, of late the small or mid budget films produced by the country’s premium production house hasn’t really seen a great run at the Box Office. Whether it is Bank Chor, Meri Pyaari Bindu or Qaidi Band, the results have been poor. Of course, when a Tiger Zinda Hai arrives, it wipes off deficit but then all kind of films need to work with the audience when credentials like the ones boasted by YRF are involved.
This is the reason why one now waits to see the kind of response that is generated at the Box Office by Hichki. The film’s promo met with a decent to good response but then the follow up wasn’t impressive at all. The film was even pushed ahead by a few weeks so that there could be added momentum in the marketing and promotion. However, none of that helped much either. The music has in any ways not worked either.
Hence, all eyes now are on the kind of content that director Siddharth P Malhotra has up his sleeves. By the look of things, it seems like there would be a different story in the offering for sure. Also, considering the fact that Rani Mukherji is a part of the film, one hopes that she must indeed have chosen something special. However, all of that would come into account primarily from Saturday onwards since entire Friday would actually go into fetching the best word of mouth that could possibly come its way through limited audiences that watch the film.
As of now, the film should take a start of around Rs. 2 crore and in the best case scenario stretch towards the Rs. 3 crore mark. Though it would still be low, at least it would give it some sort of a chance to consolidate over rest of the weekend. 2
