Three years back Saket Chaudhary's Shaadi Ke Side Effects [2014] had released. Coming in the wake of Pyaar Ke Side Effects (which was a success), the Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan couldn't register much of a presence at the Box Office and folded up at Rs. 37.50 crore. Now Hindi Medium, the director's newest outing, has turned out to be a surprise Hit at the Box Office and has almost equated the lifetime score of Shaadi KE Side Effects in just 10 days. With Rs. 5.11 crore more coming in on Sunday, the film has now netted Rs. 37.35 crore already and is still counting.
Ironically, Shaadi Ke Side Effects was a Balaji Motion Pictures flick and now their Half Girlfriend is pitted against Saket's Hindi Medium. The film collected Rs. 2.35 crore more on its second Sunday and currently stands at Rs. 55.31 crore. The film should go past the Rs. 60 crore mark this week.
Unbelievable as it may sound though but there are as many as seven Hindi releases arriving on the coming Friday. This would of course curtail the shows of many other films in the running, even if they get even show each in most multiplexes. However, it is pretty much on the cards that from the holdover releases, Hindi Medium would find maximum traction in theaters though one waits to see if exhibitors show enhanced trust in the film and lend it a well deserved showcasing that allows it an additional clear week ahead before producer Dinesh Vijan's own directorial outing Raabta hits the screens a week later.
