Vikram: CBFC mutes ‘GST’, tones down violence and moaning sound, removes dialogue with sexual reference in the Kamal Haasan starrer : Bollywood News

The trade industry and moviegoers are eagerly looking forward to the release of Vikram, the Tamil film, starring Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil. The theatrical trailer stunned viewers thanks to its massy element and stylish execution. As a result, this Lokesh Kanagaraj-directorial is expected to open big when it hits cinemas on June 3.

It has now come to light that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has passed Vikram’s original Tamil version with a U/A certificate. However, the film has got as many as 13 cuts.

The CBFC asked for abusive words like 'F**k', 'm**** c***', 'psycho' etc to be muted. A violent shot of a falling leg and severed head were asked to be defocused to make it less disturbing. In five places, the visuals of stabbing and attacking were asked to be reduced by 50%. Then, a dialogue 'She is 22, very sexually active and very submissive...(has) f****d a few people' was asked to be removed along with the visuals. In another word, 'GST' was muted while at one place, the moaning sound was considerably removed. An hour into the movie, another abusive word was muted. Lastly, a scene of a character flashing his middle finger was chopped off also caught CBFC’s attention.

In all, the CBFC has deleted around 22 seconds of the film. The length of Vikram after these cuts was carried out was 174.46 minutes. In other words, Vikram is 2 hours and 54 minutes long, as per the censor certificate.

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s last film was Master (2021), starring Vijay. It was the first pandemic super-hit and had also got a wide release in Hindi. Vikram, too, would have a release in Hindi, although in the Hindi speaking markets, it’ll have to share screens with the big-budget Akshay Kumar-starrer, Prithviraj, and Hindi-Telugu bi-lingual, Major. All three films are scheduled to be released on June 3.
