Recently, Bollywood Hungama broke the news that the shoot of Brahmastra, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, is still not complete and that a little patchwork is still left. In short, the sci-fi film, which went on floors in February 2018, is all set to enter its fifth year of filming. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the ambitious venture boasts of top-class VFX and also faced numerous hurdles, particularly Coronavirus-induced lockdowns. Yet, it’s astonishing that the shoot of the movie has gone on for so long as many other films of similar scale in Bollywood, as well as other industries, were able to get completed within a year or two at the maximum.
Bollywood Hungama, in this special feature, has made a list of prominent actors and how many films they were able to start as well as finish since the time Brahmastra went on floors. The list doesn’t include films that were already on floors when the Ayan Mukerji directorial’s shoot began. Nor does the list comprise movies whose shoot is largely pending as of today.
Superstar Akshay Kumar is known for completing 3-4 films in a year and is a mini industry in himself. Since 2018, he began and completed, believe it or not, as many as 12 films – Mission Mangal, Housefull 4, Good Newwz, Laxmii, Sooryavanshi, Bellbottom, Atrangi Re, Bachchan Pandey, Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu and OMG 2! One should remember here that he was grounded for a few months due to the lockdown and after he was hospitalized for Covid-19. Yet, the actor managed to finish working on a dozen films.
Superstar Salman Khan completed Bharat, Dabangg 3, Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai and Antim – The Final Truth (in a supporting role). We have also included Tiger 3 in the list as the shoot is expected to get over in the next few weeks.
Ajay Devgn managed to finish as many as 9 films - De De Pyaar De, Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior, Bhuj – The Pride Of India, Sooryavanshi, Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR, Maidaan, Runway 34 and Thank God. However, in Sooryavanshi, Gangubai Kathiawadi and RRR, he had/has a cameo while he’s reportedly has a supporting part in Thank God. However, he also devoted time in between for the web series, Rudra.
Sooryavanshi also featured Ranveer Singh in a special appearance. He also worked as a lead in three more films since Brahmastra went on floors – ’83, Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Cirkus.
The massy star, Tiger Shroff, managed to complete four big-budget action extravaganzas – War, Student Of The Year 2, Baaghi 3 and Heropanti 2. Prabhas, the pan-India star, worked in three big films, which are also as grand as Brahmastra and completed work on them – Radhe Shyam, Adipurush and Salaar.
Amitabh Bachchan, who also features in Brahmastra, also completed several films, despite his age – Badla, Gulabo Sitabo, Chehre, Jhund, Runway 34 and Goodbye. After Akshay Kumar, John Abraham did the maximum number of films since February 2018 and he was in the lead in all these movies - Satyameva Jayate, Romeo Akbar Walter, Batla House, Pagalpanti, Mumbai Saga, Satyameva Jayate 2, Attack and Ek Villain Returns.
Both the Student Of The Year actors, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra, started and completed 5 films each. While Varun Dhawan worked on Kalank, Street Dancer 3D, Coolie No 1, Jug Jugg Jeeyo and Bhediya, Sidharth Malhotra shot for Jabariya Jodi, Marjaavaan, Shershaah, Mission Majnu and Thank God. The rising star, Kartik Aaryan, meanwhile completed 6 films – Luka Chuppi, Pati Patni Aur Woh, Love Aaj Kal, Dhamaka, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Freddy.
On the other hand, Ayushmann Khurrana and Rajkummar Rao managed to kick-off and finish 9 films in these 5 years, all of which, however, were mid-sized films. Finally, Arjun Kapoor completed working on 5 films, including the big-budget period film, Panipat.
