Shah Rukh Khan is an actor par excellence but wears many hats with equal élan. He always identifies himself as an entertainer on the whole and has a holistic point of view on any issue pertaining to the global world of showbiz. While talking to a business publication he touched upon the sensitive subject of wage gap between male and female actors in the industry and he had a producer’s insight to the issue. While he accepted that there is a persistence gap in the fees of male and female actors which is totally not justified, he pointed out that no actor (irrespective of his or her gender) should get more money than the profits incurred by the film at hand. Performance of the actor, according to Khan, should be equated directly with the movie’s performance of its opening weekend. As a producer he claimed that no actor should overestimate his or her performance and should charge accordingly.
Do you agree to what Shah Rukh Khan is saying? We think he does have a point there as a successful producer and someone who has mapped the economics of this industry since many years now. But all said and done, the issue of wage gap exists not only in Bollywood but worldwide and should be solved once and for all.
On work front, Shah Rukh Khan is busy with post production work of Zero starring Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. He is slated to do a biopic on Rakesh Sharma next though no official announcement has been made yet.
