Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, Mrunal Thakur, David Dhawan, Ramesh Taurani, Anu Malik, Sameer, Maniesh Paul, Chunky Panday, Rajesh Kumar, Jimmy Sheirgill, Rajat Rawail, Ali Asgar, Girish Kumar, Kumar Taurani, writer Rumy Jafry, and cinematographer Ayananka Bose attended the trailer launch of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai in Mumbai on May 23. The film features a recreated version of ‘Chunari Chunari’ from Biwi No 1 (1999) and Anu Malik went down memory lane while talking about it.
Anu Malik said, “I remember the time when I composed the song and Sameer ji wrote the lyrics. David’s love for something funky is fantastic. I want to share a beautiful story. I got this tune in my head when I was on a holiday with my family in Goa. In those days, we used to have cassettes to record the tune. Unfortunately, I forgot the cassette. My daughter Anmol was with me. I told her, ‘Dimaag mein ek tune aa rahi hai aur David ke saath sitting hone waali hai. Will you remember the tune?’. She agreed and I sang the ‘Chunari Chunari’ tune to her. She remembered the tune.”
Anu continued, “When David came for the sitting, he told me, ‘Koi hit song sunao yaar’. I was searching for one but was unable to find it. Then, I called Anmol and asked her, ‘Do you remember that tune’. She said ‘yes’ and started singing. David heard it and exclaimed, ‘Yehi toh gaana chahiye’! So, the song was born out of my daughter’s remembrance.”
Anu further stated, “David told me, ‘Yeh gaana mujhe kal record karke de’! If David likes a song, he wants to record it the next day. I asked him, ‘How do we record tomorrow?’. He insisted, ‘Kal hi hona chahiye’.”
He also remarked, “Every film I have done with David is a blockbuster, whether it's Judwaa (19997) or Biwi No 1 and Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai will also follow suit.”
Then, Anu Malik sang the iconic ‘Chunari Chunari’ line from the song and entertained the attendees.
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai releases in cinemas on June 5.
