Actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood has spoken out against the recent discussions surrounding the removal of stray dogs in Punjab, urging authorities and citizens to approach the issue with compassion and humanity. Taking to social media, the actor shared a heartfelt video message reacting to recent developments and appealed to people to stand up for stray animals instead of abandoning them.

In the video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Sonu expressed concern over reports and videos allegedly linked to the recent stray dog removal drive announced in Punjab. Calling the visuals “disturbing,” the actor urged people to think about humane alternatives instead of extreme measures. “I saw a tweet today in which our Honourable CM Punjab has given an order to remove stray dogs. I have seen a lot of videos claiming what is allegedly happening to them after that. They were very disturbing,” Sonu said in the clip.

The actor further spoke about the emotional bond many people share with stray dogs and highlighted how several residents across cities and neighbourhoods regularly feed and care for them. “But we need to acknowledge that dogs are loyal creatures. Many people adopt stray dogs and care for them daily. They are not as harmful,” he added.

At the same time, Sonu acknowledged concerns regarding public safety and incidents involving dog bites, especially involving children. However, he stressed that local communities are usually aware of aggressive animals and often raise complaints about such cases separately.

Referring to fears around large-scale removal drives, the actor said, “But now, imagine an order being passed that every dog in every neighbourhood should be taken away, either to be euthanised or something else. I request that you spread this message because we need to find a solution to stop this.”

Sonu Sood also suggested that governments should focus on building proper shelters and rehabilitation systems for stray dogs instead of relying only on removal measures. “I will try my best to ensure these stray dogs find homes. I believe the government should instead construct shelters for these dogs,” he stated.

Ending the video on an emotional note, the actor encouraged people to adopt street dogs and visibly care for them so others know the animals are being looked after. “People should adopt these dogs. Put a dupatta around your dog’s neck so they know that someone is taking care of them and feeding them. Let us raise our voice for the voiceless,” he concluded.

For the unversed, the Punjab government recently announced a coordinated campaign to remove stray dogs from crowded public areas following a Supreme Court order, while also clarifying that any action would be carried out under legal and veterinary supervision in compliance with animal welfare laws.
