Anees Bazmee On Working With Red Chillies: Mujhe Red Chillies Ke Saath Kaam Karke Bahaut Khushi Hui

Anees Bazmee is enjoying the success of his latest blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. The director spoke to Bollywood Hungama in an exclusive interview, where he talked about using VFX and special effects in his recent superhit Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. He also talked about working with Red Chillies.

He said that when he was making the film, he told the producer Murad Khetani “that we were making the film, but it will need some special effects and background music. After the addition of these two things, the film would look a hundred times better. I knew if Manu Anand would work for us as a cameraman, there is a chance to achieve what was in my mind. The special effects that we can see in the film is the result of his hard work. And i remember the last 20 to 25 days when I used to go to the Red Chillies’ office around 2 or 2.30 or 3 AM, they used to talk to me on the phone like we were talking in the daytime. They used to say, ‘come Anees bhai, it looks good’. So, I remember that the whole team had only slept for 1 or 1.30 hours in the last 20 to 25 days till the release of the film. And the success of the film is the result of their hard work.”

He said people working at Red Chillies are wonderful people, “they are professional and the attitude they have towards you is pure friendship. They have a certain amount of love towards the film and are passionate about turning it into a good film. I am so happy to have worked with Red Chillies. And I wish that if ever there is a need for special effects, the first name to pop up in my mind should be Red Chillies so that it remains impactful. And Sandy, the one who was responsible for the background music, he worked hard, and he gave us beautiful music and even people are talking about the background music. It seems that the background music has become the foreground music and has worked beautifully. I sat down with him for two months, I used to go to him time and again. He gave me a tune on the very first day of the shoot that I liked very much. And somewhere or the other, we discussed that we had to include this tune in the film. He made the tune on the crossline ‘Dil mein tu rehti hai’ in the song, Teri Aankhein in the first part of the series, Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Whenever the girl, our Manjulika entered, this tune was played. The tune which he made for me on the very first day helped me a lot because when I used to take a shot, I knew the length I needed for the shot. I used to sing it in my heart, and I used to shoot accordingly. People were afraid the film would turn out to be quite short because we did all the shooting in just one Haveli. And I used to tell them that after the special effects and the background will be done, the film would turn out to be big enough. And today I am very happy to hear them say that they think the film is fantastic.”

Indian cinema in using special effects to alter realities of life. The introduction of VFX in the movies has entirely changed the dynamics of cinema. The directors today must put out of the box ideas on the table for their film to work. And Anees Bazmee, with his experimental kick, has the potential for that.
