SRK-Aditya Chopra .This combo was more than enough for me to get excited about Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.Right from the classic DDLJ to the magnificient Mohabbatein ,Aditya Chopra's movies have always been special for me .RNDDJ is a sweet and charming film with feel good factor attached to it .But somehow it does not quite justify the huge 8 years gap which Aditya had taken after Mohabbatein .Something is missing this time and I was just not feeling it after the movie got over .The biggest minus point here is the length .With 3 hours duration and just 3 characters, the story feels like a drag in the later hour and the lasting impact which Ad's two flicks made earlier is not there .However the movie does have its moment and surely worth a watch . The film opens in Amritsar and we are shown that SRK-Anushka are newly married couple .The film then moves into the flashback and narrates the circumstances which lead to their [forced] marriage.Cut to the present ,SRK is trylu in love with Anushka and she is the first woman for whom his Dil goes Dhak dhak in his boring life .Anushka on the other hand is ready to fullfil the responsibilities of a wife but does not love him .How they come together is what the film is all about . The film starts on a terrific note .Amritsar has been depicted so beautifully and realistically that for a moment I felt like I was watching a real life story rather than a film .Its absolutely flawless.Another masterstroke in this half is the way Adi has designed the character of SRK .Every common man is sure to identify with his charcter of Surinder Sahani .His antics in this half are a roit and SRK certainly gives one of his best performance here .He is absolutely amazing and the fact that Yashraj reserves the best roles for him has been proved yet again .The humour qotient is maintained even after the arrival of Raj and the entire movie is a joyride ight till the intermission . Second half too starts on a promising note .It has several well executed scenes .Especially the Pani Puri track and the sequence that follows after SRK enters the house is howlarious .Another scene I liked was the way Raj confessed his love to Anushka with blackout in the entire city .That was so romantic .But the movie goes downhill after Anushka plans to elope with Raj .One fails to understand why she suddenly has a change of heart in the golden temple amd sees her 'rab ' in Surinder .Also the movie gets bit monotonus after a point with just three characters and similar scenes .The director should have added some more characters to justify the near 3 hour length . And if you are not a fan of typical Yashraj romance you are sure to feel bored with heavy talks on love ,romance and relationship .I am a huge fan of these typical yashraj love stories yet i felt Aditya could have edited those portions to make the film even more crisper. SRK is the backbone of the movie and certainly delivers a brilliant performormance .His surinder Sahani so real and indentifiable .You are sure to fall in love with his character .His Raj is likeable too but somehow his age shows up on those Raj portions and its high time he leaves the romantic genre for younger heroes .Overall a sure contender for the next year filmfare award . Anushka is the find of the year and really cute .She completly steals the scene that she is in .She really grows on you with each scenes.The chemistry Anyshka-SRK share is quite good and the age gap is not evident at all.Far Better than SRK-Deepika jodi. Vinay Pathak is absolutely rocking . The music works like a magic in the entire movie .The songs which were not so great audiowie are absolute treat on screen .PMCC is the pick of the lot and its picturisation is an absolute wow .Rani Mikherji looks breathtaking in the song followed by Bips ,Kajol Preity and Lara in that order . Tujhe mein Rab Dikhta is a lyrical gem .Haule haule compliments the mood of the film well . The production values are absolutely grand despite the middle class setting . Overall a feel good flick which is worth a watch .Its not in the leauge of Aditya's earlier works but much better compared to recent Yashraj product .Worth a trip! 3.5/5
