The film is a story of India in the 1550s. The time of the Mogul rulers when, kings walked the soil and fought battles to expand their kingdom. In the midst of this, is an Emperor who has been raised to conquer, with the elders around him making all his decisions. Then one fine day when he decides to make his own decisions, he decides to accept a proposal to marry a Rajput princess. No big deal you say, except the man is a Mogul king, a Muslim. Now don’t expect a modern day drama about how this is un-acceptable. Instead what we get here is a nice story about how secularism was so much more evident in that era than it is now. The story resolves around how betrayal and greed, and also a small dose of fanaticism is overcome by love and secularism.

I first wanna contradic every other reviews hre as it is jus an preview n a personal expectation from the movie...review is sumthng tht can be given after watching it on whole..to start with i can say that it isnt for people who expecting a mushy romantic flick with actors running around the bushes its a total no no for them......n to make things crystal clear lemme also tel u that this saga doesnt revolve around jus the love birds...it has excellently dealt with the true situation of an arranged alliances and what one would go through in a non masala way....which isnt filmi...n can be related to true life instances....it would be wrong to even call it a love story as the flick also concerns the political n domestic situations in the whole process of a Hindu woman being married to a Mughal...what makes it worth a watch is performances of actors...massive sets...beautifuly shot India...marvalous costumes...n a epic that has been ruled out of History though being uniquely positive....n for all Hrithik n Aishwarya fan its a true eye treat..njoy this historic epic less filmi drama

Its a massive star cast, with many characters! Each one has something to do and something to say. If history was your fav subject in school, then seeing it come to life on the big screen would definately bring a smile on your face.
Its colorful, its larger than life, its stunning, its soothing. Hrithik as Akbar is perfect, Ash looks stunning, Ila Arun is at her best, A.R.Rahman's music is soothing.
The film however drags to over 3hrs 30 mins, and it does get slow. The film is mainly about the love between Jodhaa and Akbar, and that is shown to develop only after you are half way into the film! Never the less, do watch the film. Its in a different league in comparision to Lagaan and Swades, and the fact that the director can handle such diverse films is applaudable! Great work Ashu!
