Albeit it was a slow start to the film -- it was an amazing movie --- something that hasn't been created to this size day and age for a long time...as far as comparing to TZP -- there is no comparison because they are in different genres.

I missed the start of the movie thanks to the Mumbai traffic. Almost a crime fr a movie buff who missed the advertisements and moreover the titles! After getting the crux of the first 5 minutes from my friends I slipped back into time... into the Mughal era... So, kahan se shuru kare jahanpanah... The movie starts, at least for me, with a magnanimous war sequence, between the Mughals-led by Akbar and a Rajput kingdom. The bows and arrows, the huge battleground, the screeching swords and the elephants roaring and stamping their foot on the beleaguered soldiers was a treat to watch! The dolby effect makes you wince on instinct. There is a lull before a storm, however, in JodhaAkbar, the storm leads to a lull. We are introduced to the other half of the magnum opus Jodhabai, the daughter of the maharaja of Amer played by...Ashutosh's favorite maharaja...Kulbushan Kharbanda. He shows his constipated face throughout the movie with natural ease. Maharani is Suhasini Mulay, while Sonu Sood plays her cousin brother, who is unhappy over the siyasat being handed over to someone else. Maharaja decided to save his countrymen of battle, bloodshed and violence and surrender his state to Akbar. This creates a rift between rival Rajput kingdoms and Amer is banished by one and all, breaking a marriage alliance of Jodha with some Rajput guy. This leads to the proposal of Maharaj to Akbar to marry his daughter Jodha in return of his state. Akbar, accepts the proposal in order to set up a "misaal" of Hindu-Muslim alliance. And thus, begins a love affair. There is everything in this love ishtory... Takraars, romance, light hearted silent moments, saas bahu saazish and jealousy. However, each plot is extended and goes on and on... There is no surprise in the plot. The screenplay drags to the finale, which brightens things up a notch or two. Music: The background music scores over the 5 songs. Rahman dissapoints! Lagaan and Swades had better songs in comparison. Only the kehne ko jashne bahara lingers in my mind. Although picturisation wise, Marhaaba is festive. But, with Hrithik donned as Akbar, he can only watch people dancing here! Character actors have less to do here, but Hrithik's ammi shines in her small role. Ashwarya holds her own in front of Hrithik and is competent. But Hrithik is the soul of the movie. He potrays Akbar, from the ones we have read, better in the action sequences. The romantic angle of Akbar, is delved like any other mushy movie. Probably, he could have improved there. In the age, where top directors are banishing popular commercial requirements to make movies that satisfy thier creative urges, Ashutosh joins the list. But, this one, somehow doesnt give the triumphant feeling of Lagaan or the guilty feeling of Swades. It makes your head ache like old History books did! However, for the cinematoghaphy, the effort taken in meticulously getting the look of the Mughals, the Rajputs and the battlefield you can take a pill and watch this once.

Jodhaa Akbar was way above what I had expected. I have to say, I am not a big fan of Hrithik Roshan or Ashwariya Rai but I still went to see the movie because I like history. After watching it, though, I have to say I was thoroughly impressed by Hrithik's acting. His posture, voice, and expressions were perfect. I can't imagine anyone else as Akbar. As far as the story goes, it is well-written and it honestly doesn't even feel like a three and half hour movie. I was actually surprised to see it end. Haha. Overall, the direction, acting, and cinematography were all excellent and thin move is definitely worth a watch.

Incredible movie! Loved it. We haven't seen something like this for a LONG time (an epic romance). The way that it mixes romance, politics, drama and all that is just perfect. My only complaint is that its just TOO long and takes too long to set the stage. But then again, this is required with a film that tries to stick to history so I'm not too sure if there was any way to avoid this. The music was perfectly woven into the film. I was a bit "UHHHHHH" with Khwaja...I'm not sure whether to think it was incredibly meaningful or just TOO much LOL but oh well I'll overlook that. It was interesting. "In Lamhon Ke Daaman" is by far my favourite. Each and every performance was brilliant. Actually I didn't like that guy in the beginning...the one that trains Akbar...but oh well LOL. The rest were great! Hrithik was OUTSTANDING...what a POWERFUL performance. When I usually watch his films I see "Hrithik the star" this time I saw "Akbar the character" which was a huge change. I think this is his best performance EVER. Aishwarya was perfect for the role. I think this is her best in a long time and what she did best was bring out the innocence and purity in Jodhaa. Well played, well emoted and overall a class act. The supporting cast was great but who really left me in awe was Ila Arun. She better bag each and every Best Supporting Actress award next year (I love how I'm saying this in the second month of 2008 LOL). She stole each and every scene she was in! Sonu Sood impressed me too...and the rest were all good. OVERALL: It's long, yes. But don't miss it--it's worth the sore butt when its over. 4/5

Well, owing to the fact that Jodhaa Akbar did NOT release in Multiplexes in my city (Kolkata) on opening day, I found myself running around the better part of the city, with my friend, who subsequently had bunked school. And, in short, Jodhaa Akbar was nothing short of beautiful. It was more than worth the risk we took to watch it. Starting with the signature Gowariker style, with Mr. Bachchan narrating to the map of India in the time of the Mughals, the movie was unlike any Bollywood movie I've ever seen before. Admitted, we still have a long way to go when it comes to making war scenes which will look anything nearly like a Kingdon of Heaven, or Lord of the Rings, but still, it was an attempt, and quite its worth. The battlefield looks wow! The story, a pleasant surprise. The acting, grand. Aishwarya Rai, gives us a glimpse of her acting skills. Her voice, sweet melody. Here, I must bow to one Hrithik Roshan, who gives the performance of a lifetime. He looks royal, sounds grand, and acts the part with flawlessness to glory. The only amount of helplessness we ever hear from him is when he asks his beloved to forgive him and return home with him. The expressions show how much he has matured as an actor. It is, truly, a role that is made FOR him. He shines, just like the room that did the same while sunset. Watch out for it.

I saw Jodhaa Akbar today. A complete let down from a Period Film. I can not prevent from comparing this movie with the great classics such as Anar Kali, Mughal-e-Azam and Taj Mahal (with Pradeep kumar and Bina Rai). The music is very ordinary, acting is OK. There is not much emphasis on how Jodhaa influenced the life of Akbar.
