2 states is fully justify the book.. If you read the book then you will like the movie. Some sequence are missing from the movie because director wants to be it short and simple but it took 2.30 hours.
The only difference in movie and the book is the book told the story about the 90's when cellphones are rarely use while the movie is all about 2014. Well i prefer romance without cellphones so i like the book most therefore director made some mistakes while making the movie, you will figure it out if you read the book already, otherwise if you are did not read the book no problem you will also love this movie.
2 States is a happy film (with measured anguish). Romance in cross-cultural or even cross-border situations isn't new to Bollywood. What makes 2 States work is the simple narrative told humorously. Adapted as it is, from one of author Chetan Bhagat's best-selling works, the film, just like the book before it, is light-hearted. Chetan's funny one-liners and life-view are studiously borrowed by the director for his screen outing. And though there is a sense of deja-vu, for those who have read the book, the movie still manages to charm and surprise. Abhishek Verman deserves applause for understanding the usual yet non-described feelings and mindsets of two different castes and narrating it with ease. Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor share a decent chemistry.
From my side it is a family entertainer ... 8 out of 10
